    3. I have just joined this list and this is my first posting, so I hope that someone might be able to help me. I have been trying to help my American second cousin, Joe, to trace his family and we have recently discovered that his great-great-grandfather, Patrick SMYTH (also known as SMITH) was born in Dublin. c1831. His wife was Rosanna TANCRED , also born in Dublin c1833, and I believe that they must have married in Ireland before travelling to Manchester, where Joe's great-grandfather, Edward SMYTH (aka Smith) was born in 1853. Patrick was described as a Clothes Dealer or Tailor. We have discovered from the English Census Returns from 1861 onwards that the family were variously known as Smyth or Smith and that Edward had five sisters and brothers - Mary, born in Dublin c1852 (who married Thomas TIERNEY in Manchester); Thomas born in Dublin c1859; John born in Manchester c1860 (who may have died young); Julia Ann born in Dublin c1864 and Elizabeth born in Manchester c1869. If anyone happens to be researching this Smyth/Smith family, I would love to hear from you. And if anyone knows anything about Rosanna's Tancred family, or Thomas Tierney (whom we believe was also born in Ireland c1853) and his family, this would be very helpful too. We would especially love to have details of Patrick's and Rosanna's birth and their marriage, but I have no idea how to go about obtaining this information. With many thanks to anyone who can help.
