Thanks Johnny, I have his coastguard service record which another member of the family who is also researching has passed on to me. I looked at the site and thought it was great, although a search for John Martin came back negative. I'm really interested in finding out how John Martin met Margaret Hart in Dublin. They are my 3 x great grandparents. She was born in Dublin in 1804 and was a governess around the time they met in 1829. It's been said they eloped. Apparently there were quite a few wealthy people around at this time in Dublin who could've employed here. Would the elopment have caused a scandal? Would it have been mentioned in the local press?
