Does anybody know, where I can find out which school and where in Ireland this certificate was issued? I have another Certificate for the following year given to the same Pupil, this time it is for Examination of Science Classes. John Quigley was born about 1850-1. He later studied to become a Civil Engineer, but doesn't seem to appear on Trinity College Records. I should be most grateful for any help. Dear`Inga, I wonder if by chance if you were able to get someone to look at the registry of deeds if this would be where you may or may not find an indenture for the young man, I have read of late that Trinity college degree was not necessary on this job just this past week on Dublin list. I could not even locate a guild for the Engineers either. But will look further at my notes I have here and post on. Is there an Institute of Engineers in Ireland? I found a lot of information that I wanted about an Irish architect from the Architectural Archive in Merrion Square. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cara_Links" <cracker@hotkey.net.au> To: <irl-dublin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2007 9:03 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-DUBLIN] QUEEN's PRICE 1867 & 1868 > Dear`Inga, > > I wonder if by chance if you were able to get someone to look at the > registry of deeds if this would be where you may or may not find an > indenture for the young man, I have read of late that Trinity college > degree was not necessary on this job just this past week on Dublin list. > > I could not even locate a guild for the Engineers either. > > But will look further at my notes I have here and post on. > > Cara > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "ibsjackson" <ibsjackson@xtra.co.nz> > To: <IRL-DUBLIN-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2007 11:31 AM > Subject: [IRL-DUBLIN] QUEEN's PRICE 1867 & 1868 > > >> >> Does anybody know, where I can find out which school and where in Ireland >> this certificate was issued? >> I have another Certificate for the following year given to the same >> Pupil, >> this time it is for Examination of Science Classes. >> John Quigley was born about 1850-1. >> He later studied to become a Civil Engineer, but doesn't seem to appear >> on >> Trinity College Records. >> I should be most grateful for any help. >> Kind regards >> Inga Jackson >> -------------------------------------------------------------- >> >> Science and Art Department >> of The Committee of Council on >> Education. >> >> --------- >> QUEEN's PRIZE. >> ------- >> Third Class in >> Elementary >> Mathematics >> >> Obtained by John Quigley >> in the Examination of Science Classes >> held May 1867 >> --------- >> >> By order of the Lords of the >> committee of >> Privy Council on Education, >> MDCCCLWI. >> _________________________________________________________________________________ >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >> IRL-DUBLIN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >> quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > IRL-DUBLIN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
Dear Cara, Thank you for your answer. In time Trinity College started to have degree Courses in Engineering. When they started, I don't know, but my Father-in-Law and his older brother both got their degrees there in the 1920th.. There already was a "Institution for Civil Engineers of Ireland" in 1844. My husbands Grggrandfather William Forsyth became an Associate Member in Oct 1845 and was duly elected a Member of the Institution in May 1849. I wrote to the present Institution of Engineers in Dublin last year and they kindly sent me learned letters William Forsyth had delivered at meetings. Unfortunately they had no information about his private life, such as where he was born or where he had studied. Information I still lack, unfortunately.
