Jim, there are two easy commands to record somewhere where you can find them when needed. They involve using the computer keyboard "Alt" key together with the numeric keys (not the numbers at the top of the keyboard). Euro: Alt 0128 Pound: Alt 156 or 0163 Bill. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jj.carroll" <jj.carroll@comcast.net> To: <irl-dublin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 4:00 AM Subject: [IRL-DUBLIN] Pound Sign, and how you can get it on the computer... | We in America have dollars, and our computers are set for $ and cents. How - or what - are the commands for the Pound key, and the Euro now for the other parts of Europe, including Ireland. (Dagnabit, have a lot of punts and Irish coins, but they are worthless in the trade now, and they were good up until a few years ago.) | | Regards, | Jim Carroll | | ------------------------------- | To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-DUBLIN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message |
Bill, thank you. I have a different way to do it, because just using the alt key and the numbers comes up with the numbers. I was told to go to the character map, found under accessories, and to use that one to find the Alt 0163 for the pound key. Then, select that key (once you have the type face), then you will find the punt sign in the box, and then you "copy" it. Once you have copied it, you can return to your original writing and hit the edit button (on top) and then the paste button. That way, you have it and you don't have to worry why it is coming up with 0163 instead of £. It does work, as you can see. Jim (I'm not the genius; I only follow the directions of others that have found this method.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Websters" <wbwebster@optusnet.com.au> To: <irl-dublin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 17, 2007 2:52 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-DUBLIN] Pound Sign, and how you can get it on the computer... > Jim, there are two easy commands to record somewhere where you can find > them > when needed.
