Valerie: I am not disputing anything that has been said. I wrote to the cemetery and Mr. Massey the keeper of the cemetery wrote back and gave the following: John Gordon Lewis son in law of deceased and where he was living at the time. That he signed for the interment of my g uncle Joseph Anderson Holland. Someone has to take responsibility for opening the grave and to give permission to bury if there is any family to do so. Do not know where Mr. Massey got his information, however, it was correct. He was so gracious to answer both letters and give so freely his information. This is all I have to go on. The info had to be there, otherwise he would not have known. With the name of John Gordon Lewis I discovered which daughter he had married and found a g g granddaughter of John Gordon Lewis who lives in England also. We are working together now to search for the remainder of this family that I have been searching since 1977. What Shirley writes make perfectly good sense to me, what Valerie is writing is that you have to take the word of the person giving you the copy from the burial register in this case I would think, BUT what you dont know is that they are not obligated to show you the hard copy of anything in Ireland You may go to see the priest, and request a look at his registers, if hes an obliging priest and not busy he may give you a small look, but most priests I have been to have done the looking themselves and sent on the data, so are we going to then say, well the priest looked at the book and he has put his interpretation on it also, you can say that of many things, but some of us, have to beleive in the good intentions of others, as funds are not available to go to the area to research. I do worry about the bogus researcher who does take money and give you whatever it is you want to hear, and dissappears into the sunset, but in Mr Massey;s case he had nothing to gain and I feel what SHirley has said make perfectly good sense. Valerie also has a perfectly good point, but you all have to be aware, that not all hard copies in Ireland are open to the eyes of the family researcher.
