    3. I found this website, which lists streets, note registration districts, parishes, and wards, all on an easily downloadable .pdf file: http://users.skynet.be/ken.lennan/len008.htm Now, here's my question: my ancestor, Bartholemew Murphy, is listed in the 1850 City Directory of Dublin as a grocer on 65 Thomas St. Was it common for a business owner to also live at his place of business? I ask because if Bartholemew lived at that same address, which is in the parish of St. Catherine's, it narrows down where I might go for church or cemetery records. -Pat. Wary

    3. Pat, where did you access the 1850 City directory of Dublin .? My great great grandfather, Michael CANAVAN or McCANAVON was a house painter in Dublin, so perhaps he may have been mentioned in the directory, hence my interest. 3. You need to look at the street section of the directory to see who else is living with him, if anyone, and who else is living around him, what their occupations are and what size a property they are in. Also follow through all the Dublin Directories to see when he was first listed and when he disappears. These Dublin Directories can give a huge amount of family information but must be used fully and year by year to gain a proper insight in to the family.
