Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has been to the Archives in Dublin? I would like to know what are the rules for looking at the old church records on microfilm? I am going to be searching the records of the Ahamlish Parish that they won't let the films out of Ireland & was wondering if I am going to have a hard time finding what film I need. Do they have copying machines & let you copy those particular records that they won't let out of Ireland. How do I find the number of the film I need? My ancestors came from a little place near Grange in County Sligo called Doonshaskin. I can't waste a lot of time trying to find what I need because I will be there a very limited time. Hope someone can lead me in the right direction. Thank you, Carol ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
I went not to the National Archives but to the National Libary on Kildare St. You go in and tell them you want to see Microfilm on a specific church. They let you register and give you a pass and send you to a geneaologist on site. He/she talks to you and figures out if you have done your homework and if they have the film. He then insturcts you on going upstairs, picking a machine, asking for the film, etc. The machines will not make copies so take your own pencil and paper. They have 15 or so machine. Do all your can before you go there. OUt of about 15 that arrived when I did. I was only one that had done my homework and knew specifically what I was looking for...all others were told to go home and do their research at home before coming back. They were not rude, but they had a lot of people who had not done basic research on their family asking questions of them....wasting their time. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Stacker2@aol.com> To: <irl-dublin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 27, 2007 3:48 PM Subject: [IRL-DUBLIN] Going to Dublin > Hi everyone, > > I was wondering if anyone has been to the Archives in Dublin?
