I hope some kind souls may be able to help me with the following. The names are neither rare nor common so they may have some connection with the researches of others. GEORGE HALPIN was born (we believe) in Dublin in about 1843 (derived unreliably, I know, from the age in his death certificate). It is believed he belonged to a family of engineers and builders. It is not known if it is the same Halpins connected to the construction of the Liffey docks and some lighthouses. I have from unsourced information that his parents were GEORGE HALPIN and JULIA VILLIERS. The same information states that he had a brother, WILLIAM HALPIN. George married on 14 Jun 1868 in Rathvilly Co Carlow ANN WATERS or WATTERS, daughter of BARTHOLOMEW. It is believed GEORGE and ANN lived in Dublin, Newark NJ, possibly South Africa and back to Dublin before emigrating in 1882 to New South Wales. They had children: Mary Isabella b. 09 Feb 1869 in Dublin Frances b. 18 Dec 1871 Newark Essex NJ USA Annie Caroline b. 1874 NJ USA Eva b. c. 1876 in Ireland or South Africa Louisa b. c. 1878 Ireland or South Africa Alfred b. 16 Jan 1880 Dublin Julia b. 14 Feb 1882 2 Raymond Street Dublin 3 more children were born in NSW, George Sydney, Alice and Ivy. Can anyone please help with some of these people? It would be much appreciated. Bill Sydney
Is it possible to identify land from this information? I can't seem to find any maps online that help. BARTHOLOMEW WATERS shows up in Griffith's Valuations 1852. Griffith's has him in County Carlow, PLU of Carlow, Parish of TULLOWMAGIMMA, Townland of TINRILAND, Ord S. 7, maps 19A and 19B, tenants of Viscount Beresford, land of just over 104 acres. I apologise that this is not in the Dublin area but I suppose I am calling on an area of general expertise. It would be exciting to be able to identify where this family lived. Thank you Bill.
Bill - try Googling: Tinriland Carlow (and/or Tinryland Carlow) and, better yet, post on irl-carlow@rootsweb.com and, best of all, take a look at www.rootsweb.com/~irlcarlow2/ Sharon ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Websters" <wbwebster@optusnet.com.au> To: <irl-dublin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 14, 2007 12:26 AM Subject: [IRL-DUBLIN] Griffith's Valuations > Is it possible to identify land from this information?
