Greetings all from Tasmania, I have posted in the past without any success so I thought I would try again. My GG grandfather JAMES CARROLL was said to be born in Dublin ca 1857 He married Annie Anastasia Marsh in Sydney in August 1877 at St Patrick's Catholic Church On the marriage Certificate James parents are shown as JOHN CARROLL AND HONORA MORLEY . Would anyone have any ideas as to how I may go about finding more information e.g place or district of residence, birth/christening of James, any other siblings. When James emigrated to Australia. I assume you have a copy of the marriage certificate. During this period of time in NSW the amount of information gained during a wedding for the church register was not all required by the government so that church registers often have more information in them. During the depression of the 1920s the Government at the time employed people to go to the church registers and record all the other information which was then added to the original marriage certificate which a note saying that columns 4,7,9, for example have been added later. Not all of these records were accessed so it is necessary to go back to the original record - which of course we should all be doing. If you want more information on the church record you could ask The Society of Australian Genealogists if they have filmed these church registers and for a fee of A$40 a volunteer researcher will look this up for you.
