    3. Hi Colette, I can't believe I missed Charlotte and Harriet. Thank you very much. The others, and more, I do have. Frederick was my great grandfather. The Robert who witnessed a marriage in 1885 can't be mine as the elder Robert died in 1870 and the younger came to NZ about 1865. To answer Bill Webster's query ... Do you know the reason for his middle name, Wentworth? I've always assumed it was an earlier wife's maiden surname. Which should have made tracing my ancestors easier. But .... Some years after Frederick Wentworth WADE died in Invercargill NZ a book called "Invercargill Pioneers" was published. It gave Frederick’s birthplace as ‘Clonebraney’, an Anglo-Irish estate in Meath which until recently has been in the hands of the WADE family since Cromwellian times. The estate is now in ruins but some parts remain. The intermarrying Clonebraney WADEs are detailed in Burke’s Irish Landed Gentry, which also shows their linkage to the SHEILDS family, and of the SHEILDS to the WENTWORTH family. Somewhere in the rarefied Anglo-Irish social milieu of the early eighteenth century a WENTWORTH or WENTWORTH-SHEILDS quite likely married a WADE. There were also prominent WADE and WENTWORTH families in Yorkshire, the former at Kilnsey. The Yorkshire WADEs were linked to the Clonebraney WADEs. I have made contact with several WADEs who trace back to Clonebraney. We are all convinced my family fit in somewhere, but none have a 'Wentworth'. Just to confound the issue, I have also found a family in Cheshire linked to the Clonebraney WADEs which includes at least two generations of Wentworth WADEs, although in their case Wentworth seems to have been used as a christian name. Wentworth Shields (spelled that way) WADE was the son of Thomas WADE who m. Emma ALEXANDER in Shardlow in 1842. This WSW was a master mariner who died aged 64 in Liverpool in 1912. The Cheshire WADEs also have an Ernest Frederick WADE b. 1888 Wirral - more family names. An interesting aside is that my Frederick Wentworth WADE was said to have been a midshipman ("Invercargill Pioneers" again) or at least in the navy for a short time (two of his obituaries). He went on to become an accountant and then a solicitor and noted barrister. I now know conclusively that my Frederick was not born at'Clonebraney' but in Dublin, the son of a schoolmaster. "Invercargill Pioneers" also wrongly said that Clonebraney was in Westmeath, which makes me wonder if Robert Sen.'s family actually came from that county, where there was indeed another WADE family linked far back with the Clonebraney WADEs. Perhaps a rather more fullsome answer than you expected? (smile). Nancy

    3. Hi Nancy What an absolutely fascinating family history you have - lucky you! I'm afraid, like most people, mine is just an ordinary run-of-the-mill family, which makes tracing them so much harder. Not that I'm complaining, though - I love it! Must keep you/your family in mind as I trawl through all sorts of stuff, and if I ever come across something, I will certainly contact you. Happy hunting! 3. Nancy, I only asked because somewhere in your records you mention Wicklow. The Wentworth and Fitzwilliam families owned a huge tract of Co Wicklow including, I think, part of Wicklow town with, literally, hundreds of tenants, servants and employees. Your family could have been linked somehow or the name may have been to honour a benefactor or landlord. Just thoughts for your consideration. Bill

    3. I am letting you know that there is a problem with those who have AOL addresses, I am in fact receiving way above the the normal amount of bounces, which suggests that there is a problem at AOL level, so should you find yourself bounced off the list, simply sort it with a resub, and with AOL as it is not, because of any other problems. It has been reported but, it is the weekend so it may be a wee while to sort it out and you may find yourself, being bounced off the list for no apparent reason Cheers Cara Please dont comment on list as this is an admin problem nothing to do with list.
