Hello I am a new member to this list - I am in New Zealand. I am hunting for anything and everything regarding my late 2 times great grandmother who was named Maria Ann COFFEY. Her NZ death certificate (1935) states her father was Christopher COFFEY (a plumber of Dublin) and her mother was called Eliza (no surname). But as many of us appreciate, the details at time of death are only as good as the knowledge of the informer of that time. This death information also states she had been in NZ since 1864. (This enabled me to hunt out a passenger list ['Glenmark'] but that list states her name as Margaret COFFEY and that she was 18. This means she was supposedly born in 1846, in spite of her death certificate stating she was born in 1842.) I also have her will, thinking that might hold some information as to her siblings or neices/nephews. But no. Neither does her NZ Marriage certificate. (In 1866, very little information was recorded on such documents). She was Roman Catholic. Because of so little information on Maria, I decided to attempt to look at Irish Records relating to Dublin. I have looked at the Dublin Trade Directory - 1852, I think - but nothing came to light. I have looked at on-line Church registers and in St Andrew and St Audeon, I found a Baptism for a 'Catherine COFFEY' father Chrstopher and mother Eliza, but when I contacted the church they told me I had to get a proper legal certificate and that would not tell me any more than the Baptism record. There was also a baptism record for a Mary Anne COFFEY father Christopher and mother Bessie but the date of that record is 1862 - too late. I found a Baptism record for a Christopher Coffey in 1802 father Pat and mother Jane but obviously I have no idea if this is "my" Christopher. Then I found a Baptism record for a Pat COFFY 1771 whose father was Dannielis and mother Maria. But I cannot locate any marriages for any of these persons in any of these parish records. So, what would be my next step please? Gail Riddell (Te Kohanga, NZ) Skype: karleykat Home phone: +64 9 232 8440 Cellphone: +64 21 961 478 reply to: [email protected]
Try getting a sacramental history from the Church in New Zealand it should contain the place of her baptism etc. Eliz On Sat, Mar 26, 2011 at 12:42 AM, Gail Riddell (Te Kohanga) <[email protected]> wrote: > > Hello > I am a new member to this list - I am in New Zealand.
