    3. To Joyce; Margaret Doyle; Roisin Lafferty and all of the kindest people on the Dublin list, my sincere thanks for your assistance. On your advice I have spent the last two days with a microscope firmly focused on the certificate. John RILEY /REILLY's birthplace has to be 'ROCK BROOK' Dublin, not 'Back Brook'. Now, this certificate was written in 1854, and refers to 'Rock Brook, Dublin' one would think it should be on a map - as you all have so correctly discussed. On John Taylor's map of the environs of Dublin (1816) - I can see both Willbrook and Fairbrook. However with the scroll bar pushed to the limit at the top of the map, I can also see the letters 'Rock...' just near Roundtown. Is this where I should be looking for Rock Brook? See link to map below. http://www.southdublinhistory.ie/Rathfarnham/rathf_map_taylor.htm?counter=1 The problem lies in trying to find out more about my very elusive g.g.grandfather, John RILEY. No parents names as yet. We should propose that he was born in 'ROCK BROOK, DUBLIN' c.1820. We know he came to the goldfields of New South Wales [not sure when - searching immigration records with hundreds named 'John Riley']. He married in NSW in 1854 to Elizabeth WOODCOCK [born in NSW]. The interesting thing is that he was married in an Anglican Church in NSW, and from what I have read there seems to have been a strong Protestant presence in Rathfarnham. [No further relevant details on Australian certificates]. If I could track down the birth of this fellow c.1820 I would be absolutely delighted. Thank you all again for your assistance. If anyone would like help with Queensland or New South Wales records, I would gladly try to help.
