    1. Munks
    2. According to his own sworn statement when applying for a Revolutionary War pension, William Monks was born February 2, 1762, in Dublin, Ireland. He was a Protestant. William said that he left Ireland during the summer of 1773, but makes no mention of his parents, or, in fact, of any relative who might have accompanied him to this country. It seems almost inconceivable that at the age of eleven, he would have started out for the new world alone, but such seems to have been the case, unless he was accompanied by relatives not named Monks.

    1. Donnybrook
    2. Hi... Is there a way to access records from Donnybrook? I have been researching a James Rawlins who married in Donnybrook in 1838. He became Superintendent of the Dublin and Kingston Railway by 1843. He married Rebecca Ward by Constitional license. I am still not sure what that means. She belonged to St. Marks Parish. Unfortunately the record we found does not list an age for James or anything about his family. It is not clear whether this man was originally from Ireland or from England. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bev W.

    1. Fw: Towhey's Dublin 1850. Look up and help please!
    2. jackie
    3. Hello Everyone, Only just joined this site, hopefully I get things right. I'm doing a Towhey family ancestor research but having lots of problems. I'm particularly interested in my Great Grandfather Frederick William Lovely/Lovely/Loval Towhey. Born 1856 The earliest info I have is: Marriage in 1879 Warwickshire, Birmingham England to Ellen Pattingale born Selby Yorkshire 1862 1881 Census Living in Brighton Frederick gives his place of birth as Dublin Ireland Profession Itinerant musician (Blind) Ellen Frederick Jrn 1891 Census Living Liverpool Blind Musician Born Woolwich Kent. Ellen Mary Ellen (my grandmother) Thomas Frederick Jrn had died 1901 Census Living Manchester Music instrument dealer (blind) Born Woolwich Kent. Ellen Mary Ellen Ada Thomas, he died 1910 I cannot understand why Frederick would give 2 different places of birth (it's definitely the same Frederick). I have applied for birth certs in both Ireland and England but he doesn't appear to have one. I have not been able to find anything earlier than his 1879 marriage but I do not have access to the 1861 Irish Census, he does not appear on the English one. Although I have come across the Towhey name on several occasions, I have not come across the Lovely/Loveley/Loval Towhey name at all and therefore cannot connect any other Towhey's to Frederick. The middle name of Lovely/Loveley/Loval is rather odd also. On the Census it is spelt Lovely. My grandmother was the only one of the siblings to carry the name but on her birth cert it is spelt Loval but apparently my great grandmother was know as Ellen Loval Towhey I'd be so grateful if anyone can throw any light on this for me. Kindest regards Jackie. Mail to jackie005@btclick.com

    1. ROURKE / ROUKE / RORKE / ROULK of Dublin
    2. Wayne Jesson
    3. Greetings, Would there be anyone connected to the names: JOHN RORKE/ROURK - born Dublin approx. 1758 JAMES ROURKE / ROURKE - born Dublin 1772 JOHN ROURKE - born Findlas, Dublin 1772 JOHN RUORK / ROURK - born Dublin, Dublin 1773 JOHN ROULK / RORKE / ROURKE - born Dublin, Dublin 1776 GEORGE ROUKE / ROURKE / RURKE - born Dublin, Dublin 1786 JOHN ROURKE - born Dublin, Dublin 1795 ALFRED ROURKE - born Dublin, Dublin 1801 ANDREW ROURKE - born Dublin, Dublin 1802 JOHN RORKE / ROURKE - born Dublin, Dublin 1808 JAMES ROUKE / ROURKE - born Dublin? - 1819-20 I found these names listed on the National Archives site after a general search. These Rourkes were all in the military...the last name being my g-g-grandfather. I'm trying to find any further family to my James...thinking that he came from a family of miltiary men - in Dublin. James joined the R.A. in Dublin in 1839...trained there, then stationed at Charlemont, Armagh, then the West Indies, then Bermuda, then back to Woolwich, then in India before retired. He married ANNE POWER in Dublin, Dublin sometime before the birth of their son RICHARD in 1845 in Charlemont. Their other childrens names were ELIZABETH, JOHN, ROSINA, JAMES JOSEPH and JAMES MICHAEL JOSEPH. (from the looks of their last 2 born...they went by the Irish naming pattern) I would love to hear from anyone connected to these names, in hopes of finding clues to my James family. Thanks! Regards, Deborah

    3. Am new to site and will post my interests shortly BUT...trying to find a site that will help me find an ideal hostel for 7-14 days to get to know area. My brother will be moving long term to Dublin and although l have looked at maps and so forth, l don't know the city at all. We need to be amongst it all to find work in flooring. I do apologise using this site but l have searched the web and still unsure. Being a 'family historian' for 4 years, l have found rootsweb extremely helpful in slight off topic situations. Please reply off list and thank you for letting me post. If anyone can guide me to a decent site, that would help too. Kind regards Beverley,Canada.

    2. Mary Anne
    3. Hi: I was looking at the Irish Vital Records index for marriages today at my local FHC, and I ran across someone that I have been looking for for a few years in the marriage index. It says the couple were from Dublin South and then it gives the volume number and page. My question is, what area does Dublin South cover, or does that mean the south section of the City of Dublin? Thanks, Mary Anne Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin. There is no fireside like your own fireside.

    1. O'Toole Family Line
    2. Listers, I am looking to knock down a brick wall. My O’Toole line is a dead end. My grandfather was Edwin Columbus O’Toole. He was the son of Hannah Morrissey and John Joseph O’Toole, Sr. John Joseph was the son of John O’Toole and a girl named Catherine (surname unknown). John Joseph was born in Dublin on 2 February 1865, but not sure if it is the County or the City. Also, on the Irish Times website it indicates the O'Toole name was more prominent in County Wicklow. However, Wicklow borders Dublin, does it not? Would they have lived in County Wicklow and considered it Dublin? Is there a connection out there to break down this wall? Bill Karr in Peoria, IL., USA

    1. ROMAN
    2. Eunice Goude
    3. I am new to this list and wondered if someone could help me with a look up for a Robert and Camilla ROMAN. Robert was born in Woolwich, 1873c and Camilla nee CLARKE b 1876 England. They were married in Weymouth in Dorset in 1900 and they are not to be found in any of the censuses in England after that. No deaths have been recorded either. I think that there may be a connection with Ireland as we know that Robert's mother and brother William were born in Ireland. Therefore is there any way we can find out if they did go to Ireland, also is this the right rootsweb that I have subscribed to. Cheers Eunice - Australia

    1. FULLER born Dublin in 1859
    2. Good afternoon to you all I am new to this list as have only just discovered I have an ancestor who was born in Dublin. I do not know how this came about because it does not appear as any of the rest of the family have any connection to Dublin or Ireland for that matter. Anyway my question is if anyone has access to birth records (maybe a military connection) I am looking for Charles FULLER born 1859 in Dublin. Mother's name was Eliza (don't know her maiden name but I think she was born in Kent) and father George. Any help however small could make a difference as I have just spent 2 years following the wrong family through there being two George and Eliza FULLER with sons called Charles thanks in advance regards Hazel REES
