John and Ann HART BRUTON were early immigrants to New York, later California. They lived in Dublin, Dublin, Ireland prior to 1849. They had at least 11 children, most of them were born in Ireland before they immigrated. I am trying to find the parish that they would have lived in. Some of their children's names were Thomas, John, Henry, Mary, James, William, George, Daniel, Maurice, Isabel and Margaret. This was a big family and they all came to New York with the exception of Maurice who ended up in Australia. Ann was a widow in 1880 while living in Brooklyn, then later in Alameda, California. I have some information on the children but none on John or Ann Hart, who were born and married in Dublin. What records would be best to look in? Ireland's records are a bit confusing to me. Are there any census records for Dublin available prior to 1849? Any marriage index records? Thank you for any help. Chris
Hi all, I am trying to trace the family of Catherine Moore who was born in Dublin C1832. She was the daughter of Thomas Moore who is listed on her marriage certificate as a carpenter (her death certificate cites him as a dairyman). At the time of her marriage to William Welham on 3rd July 1858 in Perth, Western Australia, her occupation is listed as a servant. She was Roman Catholic. Catherine made her mark on her marriage certificate as did a Mary Moore (who may have been related). This is all I have to go on. I cannot find out when or why she came to Australia. Can someone tell me what resources there are available in Dublin that might help me trace this family. Any information would be appreciated. Regards, Andrea. In Melbourne, Australia.
I need your help. My ancestor, John HOGARTY, was born in 1796, supposedly in the East central part of Ireland, near Dublin. When 14 years old he was playing with others when a company of British soldiers, surrounded them and pressed them into the Army. As he was too young and too small to be put into the Ranks as a soldier, he was put into the Band and also made an Officer's Valet. He never saw his father nor his mother nor his home again. In 1813 succeeded in reaching an American vessel engaged in the War of 1812. Here he entered the American army against the British and again served in the band. After the close of the War of 1812 he settled at Sacketts Harbor, Jefferson County, New York, and later married Catharine Marlin. Are there any records of individuals pressed into the British military. Any help would be appreciated. I really want to be able to trace my Irish roots.
