Message to post to the Dublin@rootsweb list: My name is Lyle Stephenson living in Oregon, USA. I need someone to do some 'digging' investigation in and around Dublin for me. Can someone recommend a party, or would some party offer to help? I am not expecting free help; I expect to pay. Lyle Stephenson
Hi guys, new to this list but subscribe to many others. I hope sks can help with info regarding James Pollitt (may be spelt Pollett). I have just received info from the Lancashire Records Office that James was possibly born in Dublin in 1806 and I wander is there any way someone could check birth entries for this period on my behalf. I am sure this is a mammoth task but I would appreciate this so very much. Kindest regards. Syl - UK

Hello, My ancestor, Mary HIGGINS aka TYRREL, was tried in Dublin City in august 1802 and found guilty of theft. She was transported to Australia for 7 years. She was born about 1781. Mary arrived in Australia in 1803. She married Richard HORNER in Australia and had three children. she named the children: James, Sarah and Mary Ann. Mary's religion was Catholic. Is there anyone on the List who may be related to Mary? Is there anyone who could look up Mary's trial records for me, In Dublin, please. Kind regards Elizabeth
Thanks Johnny, I have his coastguard service record which another member of the family who is also researching has passed on to me. I looked at the site and thought it was great, although a search for John Martin came back negative. I'm really interested in finding out how John Martin met Margaret Hart in Dublin. They are my 3 x great grandparents. She was born in Dublin in 1804 and was a governess around the time they met in 1829. It's been said they eloped. Apparently there were quite a few wealthy people around at this time in Dublin who could've employed here. Would the elopment have caused a scandal? Would it have been mentioned in the local press? Thanks for that Brian! Long shots are worth trying! Lyn IrishRecordFinder <irishrecordfinder@yahoo.com> wrote: For what it's worth Lyn, there was a Letitia Hart running a Ladies Boarding School, 18 Eccles St, in 1829. Coincidentally there is also a Margaret Hart listed at 14 Lr Pembroke St but this Margaret is a Tallow Chandler so unlikely. The wealthy in Dublin were too numerous to list. Hello list! My 3 x great grandmother, Margaret HART was born in Dublin in 1804. I believe she was a governess. My 3 x great grandfather, John MARTIN was a coastguard stationed at Kilmichael near Wicklow, Dalkey nee Dublin, then Dublin South. Apparently they eloped together and moved to Kent where he continued to be in the coastguard service. Would there have been many places in 1829 where she could have been a governess? Who were the wealthy people in Dublin at this time who could have employed her? Any help much appreciated! Lyn Freeman --------------------------------- All New Yahoo! Mail Tired of Vi@gr@! come-ons? Hello Listers, This is my first posting, and I would like information on the family of Charles Duncan THOMPSON, an astronomer at Dunsink Observatory. Charles was born in about 1796 and died on 16 August, 1876 at 32 Fontenoy Street, Dublin. His parents are unknown. It is believed the wife of Charles was Anne, possibly BROWN. Children to Charles and Anne were: Elizabeth, born 6 April 1830 in Dublin, died as Elizabeth STEWART in Newbridge, Victoria, Australia. Descendants in Australia. John, born 10 March 1831, Dublin, married Grace Maria PARKER in 1851 and died before 1865. Some descendants in the US. Henry Duncan, born 22 January 1832 in Castleknock, Dublin, married Catherine Matilda HEAVISIDE in 1851 in Dublin, and died in Victoria, Australia in 1902. Descendants in Australia. Catherine Matilda is believed to be descended from Kitty Witherington, sister in law of Theobald Wolf Tone. James, born in Dublin 16 August 1833, married Louisa Jane PARKER in 1853 in Dublin and died in Dublin in 1912. Some descendants in the US Maria, baptised 28 July 1834, Church of Ireland, Castleknock, Ireland, no further information. Any information on this family would be gratefully received. Denise Thompson, Sydney, Australia
Hello, I wonder if anyone is researching the families of these men? Both worked for the Dublin Rail in the early to mid 1800s and I have seen brief bios for each in association with the railroad. Both were Quaker, I believe. I am interested in learning more about them as they may have some connection to the Rawlins/Raulins research that I have been working on in the Dublin area. I do know that Samuel Haughton assisted James Rawlins and then replaced as supervisor after James took ill and died in 1848. Thanks so much, Bev W.
Hi List, Does anyone have any connection to PARKES / PARKS ?? I have connection to both spellings on different sides of my family, so interested in a connection to either spelling. TIA. Carol.
Morning list, are there census results for these years for Ireland? If so can anyone tell me if they are online or does anyone have access to them. I am searching for information on the following: ROBERT JOSEPH SHARP, born 1862, living in Dublin Ireland in 1884 (a public thanks to Brian for this) occupation engineer. In 1885 Robert was married in England to an ANNIE ELIZABETH PITTS and they emigrated to the US about 1888. RICHARD SHARP(his father), also an engineer Am hoping to find anything on a HANNAH VICTORIA SHARP (I have a strong suspicion she might be Robert's sister). All that is known about her at present is that she married a WILLIAM BURKE, had a daughter SYDNEY EMMA SHARP BURKE, born Dublin in 1891 and they emigrated to the US in approximately 1903. SYDNEY SHARP married a SAMUEL SHARP, son of the above Robert Joseph and Annie Elizabeth. At one point Sydney Emma told one of her granddaughters that perhaps the medical problems the family had was due to the fact that she married her first cousin (the basis for my suspicion that Hannah and Robert were siblings) Do believe that the Sharps were probably catholic. One of Sydney's daughters became a nun and one of the other daughters went to church every single day of her life. Am hoping that any of this might ring a bell with someone. Thank you for taking the time to read this rather long epistle. Pat, NY, USA

Can anyone tell me what a wireworker did in the period around 1820 to 1830, pls. My interest is in Conyngham/Cunningham, of which there are a couple of (wireworker) entries in contemporary directories.
