    1. [IRL-DUBLIN] Dublin Directories
    2. Valerie Garton
    3. I anyone is using these directories the most important place to look after you have found some one in the index is to actually look at the street section in question. This will give you an idea of the size of the residence and most importantly perhaps who else is living there as well. The later applies to people not in the index. In 1842 I found my Charles HIGGINSON living with Frederick HIGGINSON. I did not know of Frederick and I think he is probably a brother. They both were born in Dublin, 3 years apart and both in Dublin, had father's called Henry who were both Woollen/Cloth Merchants. Both men named their children Henry, Charles and Frederick. If it had not been for this find I would never have been able to find about who Henry's mother was as this was stated on Frederick's tombstone. This also gave me Henry's wife's maiden lane and took that branch of the family back 3 more generations. Also in 1872 I found Frederick in the index and when I looked at the street information there was a Walter HIGGINSON whom I have since researched and found a letter in the South African Archives where his mother is requesting an award for her son who " saved the Queens Colours " He had served through the Cape war of 1877-78 in the F.A.M.P.; lieut. and adj. 3rd regiment., Natal native contingent, Nov., 1878 So you how much more information may be added to your family history by just looking at the street indexes. Good luck to all those who will now go back and have another look. Let me know how you all get on. Cheers from sunny Sydney. Valerie B Garton [ Mrs ] A/Dip LAH & Dip FHS.

    1. [IRL-DUBLIN] CONNORS family in Dublin around 1827
    2. Marion Clare
    3. Does anyone know of families with the CONNORS/CONNERS name who lived in Dublin around 1827. I am looking for my g.g.grandmother Mary CONNORS who was born between 1826 - 1828 She married John JOHNSTON who was with the 49th foot regiment station at 'barracks' in Dublin during 1847 and 1848. He met Mary in Dublin according to family stories. She was Irish and Catholic. I would presume at the time that young girls didn't travel far from their homes. I have no idea which Barracks it could be although I have read that the Collins Barracks at Arbour Hill had the largest number of foot regiments during the 1800's Their first child was born in June 1849 in Templemore (the next army posting) so I would presume that they married 1847 - 1848. If this is the right timeframe it has to be in Dublin. So if anyone has seen CONNORS living around Dublin at this time please, please, let me know. I am stuck !!!!!! Many thanks Marion

    3. Wendy, William Forsyth was chief engineer at the Public works in Dublin until he retired in 1874. It is most likely that after a couple of years in retirement he moved on to perhaps a smaller place in Dublin. I have found a registration of death for a William Forsyth in 1888 in Dublin North. Not knowing if this WF is ours and before I send for a Death Certificate I was trying to find out if he still lived at Seville Place up till 1888. Now looking at Stuarts information that a Mary Mordant was listed at that address in 1884, I know now that he must have moved on by then. The search goes on!
