    1. [IRL-DUBLIN] Dublin DILLONs, in particular William Henry, born 13 October 1869
    2. Don MONTAGUE
    3. My first cousin twice removed William Henry DILLON was born in Dublin on 13 October 1869, son of Michael DILLON (a Stockbroker?) and Maria (born MacCABE). After Willie married Florence May COLQUHOUN (daughter of David T. COLQUHOUN, QC & his wife Margaret), on 11 January 1905 in London, he returned to Ireland with his bride and "took a house" at Carrickmines, Co. Dublin - and that's the last I've been able to find out about them. Where are they now? Dead and gone - but did they have descendants? If anyone recalls my earlier posting about this DILLON family, from e-mail addresses long abandoned, note that I have discovered the fates of William Henry's siblings Mary and Edward (Eddie SJ) who gave their lives to the Catholic Church. Another brother was Shaun DILLON, last heard of working at a Catholic foundation in Tournai, Belgium, a hundred years ago. The fate of sister Florence DILLON, born 18 January 1868 in Dublin, remains a mystery - and there may have been other siblings Don Montague - whose great-grandmother was a MacCabe

    3. Bronwyn, Take a look at the site - findmypast.com. If your ancestor died in India he was likely there with the military and his record would be a British record rather than an Irish one. I have found many military records there for my Irish ancestors in the British services. If you find a record it should also show what unit he was with and that may lead you to a site for his military unit. Good luck in your search! 3. This book may well be a great look at but it sure raised the eyebrows in a news paper print this weekend in Dublin, how awful that it should come out that Australian men of leave, should be requested to fire on their ancestors, and that at the Easter Uprising they are acredited in the newspaper News of the World Sunday 19th 2007 *The 1916 rising was quelled by Sharp-shooting Aussies soldiers rather than British sqaddies, a new book claims. May Aussies who survived various World one battles were on leave in Dublin. Australian hiistorian Jeff Kildea has described their dilemma in a new book Anzacs and Ireland He said * When the rising broke out they were given rifles and in effect told to shoot their Irish COusins. One group of Aussies on the roof of Trinity College shot at Irish despatch riders delivering messages to the rebels HQ British report said late that * the accurate fire from the college was an important factor in the salvation of the city*. Quoted from News of the World Aug 19th 2007 I am appalled to think that our soldiers were called upon to do this and can only say I am sorry that this ever happened, but I now ask where did this historian find such documented evidence to claim our Aussie men were involved CaraI hold the news copy of this input ----- Original Message ----- From: "P C & P Byers" <pbyers@netspace.net.au> To: <irl-dublin-city@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 16, 2007 5:08 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-DUBLIN-CITY] ANZACS and Ireland > People with Irish /Australian links might be interested in this book > being launched today by the Irish Ambassador to Australia . > Anzacs and Ireland by Jeff Kildea , > 9780868408774, UNSW Press, August 2007, 304pp, Availability: Plenty > Price: AUD$39.95 (AUD$36.31 ex-tax) > > quote from the UNSW page: > The people of Australia and Ireland have much in common based on > genealogy and a shared heritage. Street directories might also list the father. It may be that the family were moved from the slums in the inner city to Comeragh Road and Dublin Corporation probably owned the house. 3. Has anyone come across a death of a Dominick Keating in Dublin at all? I only have his name on his sons marriage & death cert so i dont know when Dominick was born or died. His son Patrick was born around 1844/45. He married in 1865 in Dublin to a Louisa Merry. They then moved to Glasgow where he died years later. On his marriage cert, his father is a porter & on his death cert he was a ship stoker. Would love to know more about Dominick. His wife was a Catherine Reynolds. I think they were born around 1820s.
