    1. [IRL-DUBLIN] 1901 Census ROONEY, BERESFORD, BYRNE
    2. Denis Horan
    3. Dear Brian, Many thanks for looking for me. I know these families were at these addresses by about 1905, so the Rooneys must have been somewhere else in 1901. I will keep my fingers crossed that the Byrne or Beresford searches turn up something! Thanks again....it is very much appreciated. Innisfree Island lies off-shore from Maghery and is accessed from Burtonport. It is a flat island measuring about three quarters of a mile in diameter. It came to fame in the seventies and eighties when a group of hippies known as "Screamers" went to live there and spent close on twenty years on the island before heading off for South America. Unlike Owey and Gola Innisfree never became completely deserted. It seemed to attract a certain kind of alternative lifestyle and was always likely to be home to a German or English family. Peader O'Donnell, who wrote "Islanders" was once the schoolmaster on Innisfree and preserved the island way of life for posterity in his famous novel. Today there is mains water and electricity on Innisfree making like somewhat easier. In recent years the island has hosted a very successful Arts Festival. Although there is no regular ferry service to Innisfree it is often quite possible to get passage on one of the many small craft that ply between Burtonport and Innisfree during the summer months. Prepare to be met by island cattle walking on the beach. Recently I saw on the list that someone had used this specific film so I know it is in existence however, the closest library to me here in Northern (rural) Vermont is 102 miles away in Burlington, and since my eyesight is no longer as good as it was in younger years I have given up driving. 3. Clonturk, better known today as Drumcondra, was a north Dublin parish. St Michans and St Marys are a long way away, being much nearer the city centre. If Catholic, then the parish would be Clontarf according to Lewis Top' Index. There are no Anglican records for Clonturk-Drumcondra parish as they perished in the 1922 PRO fire. There were none for the period you require or anywhere near that time anyway as they started circa 1810. Clonturk is/was a community north of the River Liffey, in Vicinity of where St. Micahn's and St. Mary's Churches are located. Looks to be about 3 blocks or so north of the river in vicinity of Church Street. I feel sure the area was larger than this back then. I have two questions and I am looking for opinions or answers as I NEED HELP. 1) Why would he be listed as born in Clonturk when there were churches in the area. This is what the LDS IGI file says and it says no more. 2. Does anyone have a microfilm number for ST. Mary's births in the 1730 time frame. I know that St. Mary's and St. Michan's were in existence back then as I found them on a 1610 map of Dublin. I already have the film number for St.Michan's but not for ST. Mary's. I have tried to send the LDS folks a message asking them for help. I am wondering why he was listed as being born this way or in this place while most show a church with birth date or chr. date. Thanks in advance for your help, opinions and/or suggestions. 1. Re: [IRL-DUBLIN] Mt Jerome Cemetery HARD COPY
    2. Cara_Links
    3. What Shirley writes make perfectly good sense to me, what Valerie is writing is that you have to take the word of the person giving you the copy from the burial register in this case I would think, BUT what you dont know is that they are not obligated to show you the hard copy of anything in Ireland You may go to see the priest, and request a look at his registers, if hes an obliging priest and not busy he may give you a small look, but most priests I have been to have done the looking themselves and sent on the data, so are we going to then say, well the priest looked at the book and he has put his interpretation on it also, you can say that of many things, but some of us, have to beleive in the good intentions of others, as funds are not available to go to the area to research. I do worry about the bogus researcher who does take money and give you whatever it is you want to hear, and dissappears into the sunset, but in Mr Massey;s case he had nothing to gain and I feel what SHirley has said make perfectly good sense. Valerie also has a perfectly good point, but you all have to be aware, that not all hard copies in Ireland are open to the eyes of the family researcher. 1. [IRL-DUBLIN] Mt. Jerome Cemetery
    2. Shirley Holland
    3. Cara: You bet they will not allow you to look at the records. Some are so old that it is barely possible to look at them at all. I have been trying to get a baptismal certificate fro St. Patrick's CI for almost 5 years. Mr. Gracey is just not cooperating. He also wants 25lbs. for the certificate. When I was last in Ireland it was during the Orangeman gathering and St. Patrick's was closed for tourist. Was unable to even get in much less ask any questions. I have relatives buried at Belfast City Cemetery-this cemetery is also very cooperative. I not only found g grandfather Holland I also found buried in the plot next to him 3 of his daughters and his mother. The cemetery was gracious to send me both plots and who was buried there. With these two plots, dates a d dates it validated information I already had and then I was able to secure birth certificates for each of them. Grand parents had two sons that died before the age of two and they are there also-thus linking grandfather to Joseph Holland without a doubt. Other researchers have found family for me in DunDonald cemetery and all have been so gracious. Have found both paid and unpaid to be so gracious and kind with their sharing. Mr. Massey at Mt Jerome had put in the 1st letter that Joseph Anderson Holland was buried in a common grave. Wrote back and asked what this meant-he replied a pauper's grave and also unmarked. This is not what we always like to hear, however, facts are as they are. I am so grateful as it pushed me further down the path of finding others. Having been at this since 1977 trust is a vital link to finding what we are looking for. If it does not work out-just begin again. Thanks for the kind words I really appreciate them.
