Jim, there are two easy commands to record somewhere where you can find them when needed. They involve using the computer keyboard "Alt" key together with the numeric keys (not the numbers at the top of the keyboard). Euro: Alt 0128 Pound: Alt 156 or 0163 Bill. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jj.carroll" <jj.carroll@comcast.net> To: <irl-dublin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 4:00 AM Subject: [IRL-DUBLIN] Pound Sign, and how you can get it on the computer... | We in America have dollars, and our computers are set for $ and cents. Ah ha, the only thing wrong with the message is that it did not include the "NumLock" button. I tried it with the numbers on the right, and nothing happened. I used the Alt buttons, both of them, and then tried the 0163. Still Nothing happened. Then I remembered something about the NumLock (but nothing on the right hand keys) and thought, Maybe that is what is missing. So, hit the "NumLock," number in the code from the Character Map, and you have it. But even though I have Microsoft Word XP, office edition, I cannot use the Alt 0163 to get a £ sign, and for like the "Euro" I use the Character Map to get a ? sign. I'd be very interested also, I was unaware of Irish census before 1901. Hi List: I would like to know if the following Films are available at a Family History Center, what the film numbers are, or must you review the records at the C of I library in Dublin ? Churches: St Pauls, Contarf & Raheny Births: 1810-1850 Marriages: 1815-1850 Burials: 1810-1850 If these films are available at FHC, I would appreciate receiving the film numbers. Alternately, is there another way to review these records ? Kindest Regards -- Kindest Regards Jim White Naples, Florida
Dear Janet, You will have to know the parish where they were born, and you would have to know that the parish records existed, then you write to that parish priest and request him to do a search and when found he writes you out an official document that says they were either baptised, christened and that is all that is needed as this is not the same as civil registration you need the priest to sign a document but on the other hand should they be church of Ireland then you would have to do the same thing also. But you say Co Antrim and you will need to know the exact parish register and their location perhaps this is a case of PRONI being used. Well I can throw confusion in to the mix I guess read below but I did locate a Joseph Nicholas Kirwan who married an Eliza Colton at St Peters in Dublin whose father was Thomas Kirwan and her father was William Colton marrying 13/2/1854 some data below as well. > I`m re-posting my interest in Dublin, which is very limited but here goes > anyway. > > Joseph KIRWAN born circa 1861 his father was Daniel according to Josephs > marriage certificate in 1892 and Daniel was by this time deceased. > > I have searched for a baptism for Joseph without success. Thanks for these Cara. Did you get this information off the I.G.I. ? Some of it looks familiar. I`ll add these to my notes. Should I ever find a baptism I may be able to put the rest of the family together. One thing that`s occurred to me just lately that I hadn`t considered before. They could have been Church of Ireland and I`m not sure if there is any coverage on the I.G.I. He married in a C of E church in Manchester but this was the religion of the bride so this wasn`t really surprising, even if he was R.C. Does anyone know what the coverage of the Church of Ireland is and availability of records? Thanks for the interest Cara. Regards. George.
