Several new additions and some tidying up. We have two new sets of headstones for Mount Jerome. Parts 13 & 14 from Yvonne Russell. I know some of you have been anxiously waiting for more from Mount Jerome. :) And from Joyce Tunstead we have Deansgrange St. Fintan's section, part 3. Since these two cemeteries were getting amazingly large, I have consolidated them on their own pages. I may do a bit more consolidating next year. To view the new files - go to our main page: http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ Click on Dublin from the Table of Counties and then Headstones. The new pages for Mount Jerome and Deansgrange are at the top of the index. We are lucky Ireland is snowed in and Joyce and Yvonne have had time to work on photos they had on hand. As I understand it the Chapman codes are all three letter codes. See Genuki: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/irl/codes.html also Wikidpedia and others have them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapman_code#Ireland I used the codes when I was transcribing Irish census several years ago. I would love to know how my ENGLISH family celebrated Christmas, but I still know so little about them. It appears that Anna Eliza might have been raising at least three daughters on her own, as John (?Wm John) had disappeared around 1841 when Cecilia was about 10yrs old. Where had he gone? Did he desert the family, or was he lost in a military pursuit? I am sure Anna and the girls would have celebrated a Christmas service at the Clonturke Church (COI). Cecilia married James Marshall in the Clonturke Church, Drumcondra, and Anna and daughters Emily and Mary were buried there. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that have responded to my requests for information. I have made some significant advances this year. Thankyou Maggie for going to the Clonturke Church and meeting Brian Freeman. He found Anna and daughters headstone. Thanks Christina for those snippets from the Treble Almanak, and the 1861 Dublin directory. Thank-you Cara and Nivard for helping me make sense of the clues that have helped put some of this puzzle together, and help bring these ancestors to life. One other thing, my Granny had written that Celicilia's mother was a Miss Dillon, the toast of dublin. Brian found a Christening record for Wm Doolan ENGLISH with parents Anna Eliza and Wm John ENGLISH privately Christened, but recorded at St Anne's. What are the chances that Anna's maiden name might have been Doolan, not Dillon? I look forward to hearing accounts of the types of Christmas our Irish relatives might have experienced. So its gone the 3rd here I am running late, how often have you ever know me to run on time As most of you on here, are looking for ancestors from Ireland, I am now wondering what traditions have filtered down through time to your festivities, in your modern times. In our house we still place a candle ( battery operated) in the window to show the way home for those that are travelling, we also place holly in our home, wish I was in the snow, now foraging for holly, I know there are people who see Holly as weed, but thats because you do not appreciate the fact that the birds love to nest in it, hid in it and enjoy the cover it affords them from the cold. It would appear that perhaps a white christmas is going to occurr in Co Wicklow this year, or maybe maybe not, I am no weather predictor, and if I was I would be opting for a white one anyway, so perhaps Dublin will get one as well. The lights must go on in Dublin any day now and I will leave that to Maggie to fill us in, and hopefully get me a photo or two or maybe three of the lights in Dublin. I am not sure what Nivard would be doing in his part of England for Christmas and look forward to hearing at what traditions he upholds there. Collette no doubt has some that she carries on, being of very solid Irish origin just living in a different part of the world, then there is Joan, our little URL hunter, who surely has a tale or two to share. Ed has for sure, I just know he will come forth with a tale. I wonder what the Halpins would have done for Christmas in 1856? Or the Doyles, Tooles, Barclays, English, and Murphy, were they warm? did they go Hungry, was their lots of Christmas Cheer, well to keep warm they could have invited a Byrne across, and a Toole they would have for sure had an altercation that would have warmed the cockles of your hearth. Hi Nancy, How did you order the death certificate, and what did it contain? Was it an American Death Certificate? Was it from the 1900's? I am not sure where to start with ordering an Irish death certificate for the 1870's onward.
