Dear Listers I am new to this mailing list. I am very interested to find out more about Mary O'Hanlon. I understand that Mary Colmey or Comey was born in possibly 1910 at maybe Dublin. She was married to Francis Patrick O'Hanlon and her death was on 23rd January 1939 at Dublin at the age of 28 years old. I would like to know if it is possible for someone to visit Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin if you live nearby and take photos of Mary O'Hanlon's grave with other grave of Rose O'Hanlon aged 15. I would love to visit this cemetery but I live in down under! It would be very much appreciated. I have got the plot number etc. Any information is very welcome. Thank you. Angela Treanor New Zealand
Hi, any records I found on the family in Scotland were not found in the Catholic registers. I really need a copy of the actual marriage record, hoping that parental names will be on it. I've not found anything on LDS.. I'll have a look at the other's. I wonder how it would be narrowed down? Would there be any residential records, were perhaps I may find the family living somewhere, and at least have an idea then of what church might be near to them. Thanks so much for your help so far Tammy BC Canada On 07/02/2011 6:54 AM, Margaret Doyle wrote: > Hi, we really need to know what their religion was. Civil registration only began here in 1864. Hi Dublin and Yorkshire Listers, (I've sent this to a few lists, I know people in the Midlothian list may have seen these names before.) I've stopped in because it has come to my attention that Hugh Mitchell married Jemima Calder on 2 July 1840 in Dublin Ireland. (or about then, the info came from a family bible) That is all I know about the marriage. I'm here to ask if anyone can help me find that record, or point me to where I might find it. I am also looking for resident info (see end). Hugh's occupation in Yorkshire was Warehouseman (stuff) I have found him on the 1851 England census, where they lived at: 7 St Judis Place, Manningham, Yorkshire. A little more info: They had 5 children born in Dublin Ireland, they were: Thomas Mitchell b. 1841 Jemima Mitchell b. 1843 John Mitchell b. 1845 Jessie Mitchell b. 1847 Emily Helen Mitchell b. 1848 They also had two children born in Yorkshire England Stillborn Mitchell 1852 Louisa Johanna Mitchell 1853 Information about Hugh and Jemima Calder. Hugh was born in: Bullions Boat, Luncanty, Redgorton, Perth, Scotland in 1810 although some dates have him born abt 1815. (and later). To parents John Mitchell and Janet Mitchell (maiden name most likely Faicheny/Faichney/Fachney) Jemima Calder was born to Thomas Calder and Joanna Nimmo in Edinburgh about 1821-ish (I have not been able to find her birth on Scotland's people, but did find her parents marriage and her older brother George Calder born to the couple in 1813. I believe I have more information on each of these people's ancestors. The issue is, because I can't find Jemima Calder's birth record at Scotlandspeople, I need to get a look at their marriage record from Dublin. If anyone can point me to any name/address residence records for Dublin 1839-1850 that might help me too. I thank you all in advance. Tammy Mitchell BC, Canada

Okay, I don't know the beginning of this thread but for ships lists has anyone suggested the Olive Tree site. It is huge and full of free material (but you have to stay in the middle of the page, the outsides are for her sponsors) Eliz On Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 3:56 AM, Margaret Doyle <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi, Im afraid that's all the ship lists I know of. Hi, Im afraid that's all the ship lists I know of. I had saved those from other sites+lists. I would think there are a lot more though. If you google using different words+phrases, you might be lucky. Maggie
Searching for Thomas and Agnes O Brien who were resident at no 3 Rathmichael Cottages Shankill in 1937 when their son was born. Thomas was a taxi man. Family legend says Thomas was killed in a car crash in the Shankill area but no report has been found in any local newspaper. The cottages were demolished some years ago. Would be grateful for any information on the family or the cottages (were they on private land or did they belong to the County council. ) Thanks in advance Roisin
Hi ???? Births at sea, Consular and military events are in a separate set of GRO indexes to the norm The theory was that overseas events recorded would be brought back and the relevant authority told, however this seems to be rather hit and miss, coupled with the ministers walking off with the Parish Registers or them being stolen or destroyed I have checked all those I can think of that might help you with nil result That does not mean they were not recorded, simply that I have not found them Ships lists at that time are few and far between and the military generally did not use them Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Any replys for births at sea? > > My ggrandfather, Richard Francis Hughes, was probably born between India and Ireland, 1860/1861 > timeframe. > > What about ship lists during that time frame? > > If his father was in the military, how would they have traveled from India to Ireland?
? Hi Susan, You may find your family listed in one of the Almanacs & calendars listed at FIBIS. http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/index.php There are quite a few hits for Hughes. >From Jenny My Family History Website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~becher/index.htm -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2011 11:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRL-DUBLIN] births at sea ca 1868 Any replys for births at sea? They would have traveled as any others would have by sea, possibly in a military ship with others, to Ireland or more likely they may have come from India to UK then on to Ireland -You will need to locate the regiment where it was located in India and when it left India, to be able follow the ships passage. You do not state the name of the ship so I am assuming you do not know the name of the ship, so therefore you are going to have to hunt the regiment when it left and where it came home to, these regiments at times left India to fight in the Zulu wars in Africa as well. His birth is not covered by civil registrations but one would assume also if his father was an active miltary man, that perhaps it is a birth that would be in military records, which I have no idea where they would be housed because your clues are very limited to what his father was, what military group he was with and and you do use that wonderful word IF!!! Sorry but I do hope this may give you something to think on. Cheers Cara

Any replys for births at sea? My ggrandfather, Richard Francis Hughes, was probably born between India and Ireland, 1860/1861 timeframe. What about ship lists during that time frame? If his father was in the military, how would they have traveled from India to Ireland?
