    1. [IRL-DUBLIN] SMITH, SMYTHE AND SMYTH
    2. Cara_Links
    3. May I suggest that the person doing this name study, simply do a one name search in the area of Phibsborough and then those sharing data with that name can add to this one name study, ( for anywhere in Dublin ) much the same as we do with the Byrne name on Wicklow, we all add in what we can on this name. This way with such a difficult name to research, we can then be adding to the archives of the DUBLIN list and if we use the subject line as above, it will be easier to find in times to come, as well as allowing the person hunting George to see what is available. Cheers Cara

    2. Cara_Links
    3. You cannot say that the naming pattern which is bandied around quite often applies to the Church of Ireland naming of their children, where is the Catholic it appears did use it, but also there I have found it to differ at times, but church of ireland people did not use a naming pattern. I will follow this statement through with some details later Cara

    3. Hi This record from Irish Genealogy.ie might be of interest, although the father is a Barrister and the surname is SMITH NIXON: Area - DUBLIN (COI) , Parish/Church/Congregation - ST. PETER Baptism of ELIZABETH MARGARETTA NIXON of BALLYFREE CO WICKLOW on 22 September 1842 Name ELIZABETH MARGARETTA NIXON Date of Birth 10 September 1842 Address BALLYFREE CO WICKLOW Father ROBERT SMITH NIXON Mother ANNA Further details in the record Father Occupation BARRISTER About the record Book Number Page Entry Number Record_Identifier 15 90 717 DU-CI-BA-198755 The church register page containing this record has not yet been imaged. Without the parents names, and being such a common surname, finding George Smyth is going to be nigh on impossible, I'm afraid. Having said that, there are 2 George Smith/Smyth's (both Church of Ireland) born in 1823 at Irish Genealogy. No mention of Nixon, although perhaps that was his mother's surname (quite usual with COI baptisms). Have you found George on Australian shipping records? Does his death cert list his parents? Do you know if he travelled on his own, or with other family members? Did he have sons? If so, and he followed tradition, he would have named the first one after his father. If he had daughters, 2nd one would have been named after his mother. Do you have baptism certs for any children? Who were the sponsors (perhaps relatives)? Sorry can't be of more help, but good luck in your search. 3. Hi There are 2 more Clark/e children at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie, as follows: John baptised July 1865 Patrick bapt March 1861 Also, perhaps, another William bapt 12 August 1858 (who might have died). There is a possible marriage of a William Clark/e to Bridget Heery 27 April 1890, father William. Have you searched the 1901/1911 Irish censuses for the children, particularly the boys? I had a quick look and there are a number of possibilities - also possibilities for William & Catherine (parents). Good luck! 1. [IRL-DUBLIN] Coffey of Dublin - ancestors and descendants
    2. Gail Riddell (Te Kohanga)
    3. Hello I am a new member to this list - I am in New Zealand. I am hunting for anything and everything regarding my late 2 times great grandmother who was named Maria Ann COFFEY. Her NZ death certificate (1935) states her father was Christopher COFFEY (a plumber of Dublin) and her mother was called Eliza (no surname). But as many of us appreciate, the details at time of death are only as good as the knowledge of the informer of that time. This death information also states she had been in NZ since 1864. (This enabled me to hunt out a passenger list ['Glenmark'] but that list states her name as Margaret COFFEY and that she was 18. This means she was supposedly born in 1846, in spite of her death certificate stating she was born in 1842.) I also have her will, thinking that might hold some information as to her siblings or neices/nephews. But no. Neither does her NZ Marriage certificate. (In 1866, very little information was recorded on such documents). She was Roman Catholic. Because of so little information on Maria, I decided to attempt to look at Irish Records relating to Dublin. I have looked at the Dublin Trade Directory - 1852, I think - but nothing came to light. I have looked at on-line Church registers and in St Andrew and St Audeon, I found a Baptism for a 'Catherine COFFEY' father Chrstopher and mother Eliza, but when I contacted the church they told me I had to get a proper legal certificate and that would not tell me any more than the Baptism record. There was also a baptism record for a Mary Anne COFFEY father Christopher and mother Bessie but the date of that record is 1862 - too late. I found a Baptism record for a Christopher Coffey in 1802 father Pat and mother Jane but obviously I have no idea if this is "my" Christopher. Then I found a Baptism record for a Pat COFFY 1771 whose father was Dannielis and mother Maria. But I cannot locate any marriages for any of these persons in any of these parish records. So, what would be my next step please? Gail Riddell (Te Kohanga, NZ) Skype: karleykat Home phone: +64 9 232 8440 Cellphone: +64 21 961 478 reply to: [email protected]
