Good morning, Dublin list. I am looking for the names of the children who were born to Thomas Bayly and Catherine Tew. I think one of them is a Henry, but I have not been able to find a record of it in the Ireland Genealogy site, although a number of other children are listed. Thomas Bayly was born in 1723 at Dublin. He married Catherine Tew about 1747. If the Alumni Dublinenses record I found for Rev. Henry Baily/Bayly connects to this family, he was born about 1756 at Dublin to Thomas Bayly. Thomas Bayly was Deputy Clerk of the Pells, taking this office his father held until his death in 1753. Does anyone connect to this family, or do you know where I could find a list of Thomas and Catherine's children? Thank you for your help. John Warther

IrishGenealogy.ie works fine too & is easy to remember. Hilda

Hi folks, I’m interested in the family and sibblings of Sarah Elizabeth POOLE, daughter of Henry John and Maria POOLE of Portobello Barracks. Sarah was born January 2,1860, and baptised October 3,1860. I have found a Wesley Poole in the 1901 Irish census and living with him and his family is his mother Maria aged 80. I’m trying to find out if this Wesley is possibly the brother of Sarah, but so far have been unable to find any records for him, other than a marriage in 1900, and possibly one prior to that in 1869. According to info I’ve collected about him, he was born between 1848 and 1853, and after a few journeys to America, travelled there to live in 1913, leaving behind his wife and step children. Does anyone else out there have an interest in or info on the POOLE family please? Any help gratefully received. Best wishes to all, Jon

Hi, St. Marys COI is in Mary street not far from St. Marys RC Pro-cathedral. If you have a look at the map, Mary street leads onto Henry st, then cross O'Connell st to North Earl st, continue walking for 3 minutes and you're at St. Marys RC Pro-cathedral. Here's a summary: Gardiner and Catherine had nine children. The first son was baptized at RC St. Mary Pro Cathedral. I don't have information on the second son. The remaining seven children were baptized at COI St. Mary. The last child, a daughter, is recorded in the database as having been baptized BOTH in Nov. 1860 at COI St. Mary AND in Jan. 1861 at RC St. Mary Pro Cathedral. The parents' address changed between these dates. I have info on only three of these children's marriages: the third son married at RC St. Andrew, the second daughter at COI St. Thomas, and the fifth son at COI St. Peter. Possibly of relevance is that Gardiner and Catherine's first known child was baptized in 1839 at RC St. Mary Pro Cathedral; their next surviving child that I know about wasn't born until about 1846, when all baptisms began taking place in COI churches. All the current COI St. Mary churches I find at <dublinchurches.com/churches/> are quite far from the city center where these people lived. My questions: 1. Is it possible that the database's RC and COI labels are incorrect for the churches involved? 2. Was this switching between RC and COI churches common? 3. Is it possible that Gardiner and Catherine were not able to have their children baptized RC after 1839 for some church-related reason? Any thoughts? Thanks. > Thanks, Maggie. Here's what Wikipedia says: "The church closed in 1986 and became a retail outlet after deconsecration.[1] It was later converted to use as a pub and restaurant. Originally named the "John M. Keating Bar", the pub changed hands in 2007 and is now simply called "The Church"." That's the way of this world, I guess. No wonder I didn't find it at the Dublin churches Web site. PJ Hi, St. Marys COI is in Mary street not far from St. Marys RC > Pro-cathedral. In February 1847, Cork Artist James O'Mahony ( 1810-79) was commissioned by the Illustrated London News to visually report on conditions in West Cork, his illustrations awaked the British middle-classes to the dreadful reality of a famine raged Ireland. This in turn promoted a wave of generosity from the British public in early 1847. O'Mahony also took notes on his assignment describing the misery he encountered. We came to Clonakilty and here for the first time the horrors of the poverty became visible Amongst them was a woman carrying her arms the corpse of a fine child and making the most distressing appeal... 'Unconffin'd, unshrouded, his bleak corpse they bore, >From the spot where he died on the cabins wet floor, To a hole which they dug in the garden close by: Thus a brother hath died, thus a Christian must lie! 'Twas a horrible end a harrowing tale, To chill the strong heart- to strike revelry pale No desease o'er this victim could mastery claim, 'Twas Famine alone mark'd his skeleton frame! This piece of prose whilst stark does clearly point out that the amount of people buried in the famine times, who will have no headstones to mark their last resting place. Sad to say the least Cara
