I am new to the list and have been searching my ROE family tree for some time, however have just found today that they may have been born in Cork City and would appreciate any hints as to how I can search further to find a record of their births.....as follows: Parents Robert Henry ROE born 1816 was a career Admiralty Civil Servant and I believe he was born in Co. Wicklow (possibly the Newtownmountkennedy area) he married Eliza Jane TENNANT who was born 1821. If she was a city of Cork girl it is possible this marriage took place there. Their first child was born 1838 so I would say the marriage took place ca 1836-38 at a guess. Children: Dr. Thomas Alexander ROE born 1838 became a surgeon, served R.N. and as a consular physician in Peru where he met and married Emmiline Russell DARTNELL born 1846, whose family were from Mallow Parish, Co. Cork and had moved to Peru just before she was born. Robert Henry ROE born 1840 Mercantile Marine Richard George ROE born 1845 became career R.N. man Sarah Anne ROE born 1847 (my GG Grandmother) William James Lyon ROE born 1848 became officer in Mercantile Marine was also Royal Navy Reserve Dr. Arthur Legge ROE born 1854 became an Opthamologist. Served in R.N and then private practice in England. Information from the Medical Directory and registry states his education and qualifications as follows: L.R.C.S., Irel.,1873; L.K.Q.C.P.Irel.,1878 (This might stand for King's Licentiate of Queen's College of Physicians, Ireland) The entry in the Medical Directory (1831) is: L.R.C.P.I. 1878; L.R.C.S.I. 1873; (Qu. Coll.Belf.& R.C.S.I.); Ophth. Surg. Hull & Sculcoates Disp.; Cons.Opth.Surg. Hull Roy. Infirm.; Ex-Pres. Hull Med. Soc; Mem. B.M.A. & Opth. Soc.; late Surg. R.N. & Surg. R.N.
