Hello Philip, Greetings from the UK. My McCarthy's lived in Cork City in the late 1800's and then my Grandmother, Mary Ellen McCarthy, came to Manchester with her husband, John James Hallinan and first two children in 1901. I have not got very far at all with this line as not only were there very many McCarthy's in Cork at that time but also lots of Mary Ellen McCarthy's. I do know from the marriage certificate that Mary's father was Francis and I have found a birth for a Mary Ellen to Francis and Anne (nee Galway) McCarthy. I also found Francis and Anne's marriage entry. Now I would like to think that I have found my ggrandparents but I have no real proof so far that these are in fact the right ones. This is also complicated by some notes I jotted down years ago while talking to my Father about his parents when, if my jottings are correct, he told me that his Mother (Mary) was originally from Dublin, although my research has not shown this to be the case. There are several family stories which I have disproved over the years so this may be another one. It would be great to think we may find a connection somewhere with your McCarthy's so if any of the above rings a bell please let me know. I will keep your information on file. Incidentally, my mail to your own address was returned undelivered. Regards Sandra
