Hi: My name is Elizabeth and I am writing from the states. I am searching my Irish roots and so far the wall is still there. I am looking for information about my Grandfather Thomas H. Murphy. He came here is 1889 according to the 1920 census. He married Annie Greer. She came here in 1888 as a teenager according to the same census. She was in the hospital for quite a few years. While searching for her I was able to read some of the reports about her. She spoke of going home to Ireland to Bride. She also spoke of a cemetery near by and a hospital or institution with the name of Malagarry. Please realize these places are pre 1888 when she came here. And the spelling is according to how the person taking the notes heard it. There are no listing for either of them since they came before there was an Ellis Island. Annie had a brother John and a sister according to the same notes. I wonder if the Annie spelling is correct. Could it have had a different spelling if it was in the Irish spelling. The same question goes for the Greer could it have been Grier? As far as my Grandfather is concerned that is all the information I have about him:-( Any help would be greatly appreciated.
