    3. Elizabeth? Have you tried to secure, if available, his naturalization papers? It is very likely that you might get some additional and helpful information from them. At the very least, they would give you some idea of when he arrived in the U.S. and you could then select the appropriate roll of film from the 14 for the year 1889 (In NYC), and at least locate him in the Customs Passengers' Lists. Although these don't provide the detail of the post 1891 lists and lists from the 1900's, they do offer a little bit like the ship name, baggage he brought, etc. All good background for "fleshing out" ancestors.
