Dear List, Sorry for the cross postings, but I wasn't sure which list to subscribe to, so I subscribed to all the Cork lists I could find. My g.g. grandmother, BRIDGET RILEY, sailed to Australia from Cork on the Duchess of Northumberland in 1834. She was a single woman, presumably with no family, sailing off to a new life (how brave they must have been!). I have no idea of her life previous to that sailing, other than than she was a native of Roscommon. However, she *may* have lived in Cork for some time. I would like to know whether there are any lists of workhouse inmates in the Cork area, that are accessible online, or to any other list members. I do not know BRIDGET's parents' names, sibling names, *anything*. She arrived in Australia in 1835, took up employment as a cook at the Albion Hotel in Sydney and not long afterwards married my g.g.grandfather and had a tribe of children...etc. etc. but it is her early life I really want to find out about. Also, I would like to find out a lot about the early history of this area around the same time she was there - clothes, social life, etc. Thanks in advance, Leone
