Hi to all my fellow family historians. My name is Michael and I am new to this list. I have been researching family history for some considerable time (mainly my Maternal side) I now want to research my fathers line and part of this research will involve Irish records. AS a start to using this list can I ask other members if they are researching the DOWNEY family in Cork and elsewhere. The person that I am researching is MICHAEL DOWNEY who on the 1881 English census gives is birth place as Cork County, Ireland. He gives his age as 35 which would put his birth circa 1846. He is married to Bridget who I have established had the Maiden Name (Sullivan) she was born in Kerry County, Ireland. At some time Michael left Ireland for America where he had two children 1872-1873 At some point he returned to England where I pick him up on the 1881 census with another child born in London England 1879. Any help and advice for starting my research in Ireland would be most appreciated. Regards Michael
