Hello All! This list has not been especially active for quite a spell; I hope my questions will change that. My GOOLD roots go back to at least the 1400s in Cork and I have been working on the family history for over 40 years. I have the list of Mayors of Cork City, (listing Goolds with Christian names that have come down for generations in our family), from William Goold, Mayor in 1443 to a William Goold (Gold) in years 1611, 1615 and 1618--30 Goolds in all. I have two questions: how can one find the parentage of these men in hopes of making a continuous link and please, what is the difference between "Mayor" and "Lord Mayor" as used in this list? If anyone has any information to help solve my dilemma, I would be very grateful. Unfortunately I will probably never make the trip to beautiful Ireland, but I do have access to the internet and public libraries. The Goolds apparently switched religious beliefs between RC and Church of Ireland, as was politically expeditious. Thanks for your consideration. Virginia in Ohio, USA
