    1. William Winspeare Rogers McCarthy family
    2. Elizabeth W. Knowlton
    3. Looking for any information on this family who probably lived in the city of Cork in the 1830s. He seems to have married Eleanor Hegarty, Diocese of Cork and Ross, by license, in a Church of Ireland ceremony in 1829. They had one daughter Mary Rogers McCarthy around 1831 and another Eleanor Winspeare McCarthy around 1838, this one definitely in Cork city, before they moved to Kilshannig Parish outside of Mallow where William had a school in Glantane. I already have the reference to the Cork & Ross Marriage License bonds index (records burned); baptisms of four more daughters in Kilshannig parish; William as a schoolmaster at his school on Griffiths; Mary's 1853 marriage record from Kilshannig to Peter Foley; Eleanor in the county directory, Kinsale, school mistress, 1886; and Eleanor on 1901 and 1911 census in Kinsale. Does anyone have any ideas of Cork city records to check? Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com

    3. Hi Kathy, You could try the Cork City Ancestral Project c/o Cork County Library, Farranlea Rd., Cork City. This project is not yet complete but it is on-going for some time now so they may be in a position to help. I doubt if they would allow you do a search yourself. You could also try St. Peter and Paul's Church in the City centre. The Sacristan there has computerised records for that parish going back to 1776. His name is Frank Wheelan and he is very helpful. Regards, Brendan Jones. ----- Original Message ----- Hi~ I will be in Ireland from the 16 til 28th of this December and am wondering if there is anyplace that one could do research on Cork City relatives, born circa 1825-1835 in Ireland, left for America by 1850s. 3. Hi~ I will be in Ireland from the 16 til 28th of this December and am wondering if there is anyplace that one could do research on Cork City relatives, born circa 1825-1835 in Ireland, left for America by 1850s. I know there's some type of "Heritage Center" that is supposed to have Cork County info, but don't know 1) if they have anything you can research yourself or 2) if they'd even have any info from Cork City. These folks were Catholics; I once wrote to St. Finbarrs in Cork City and got back births of cousins of the folks I was interested in; the cousins ended up coming to USA and living with them ( I could match death dates/ages from american cemetery with birthdates from St. Finbarrs)....but I didn't get hte births of *my* guys....(same surname) Does anyone have any advice...? Thanks...... Kathy Dowe

    1. Joyce, Lynch, Martin, Gibbons
    2. Hello, My gr, gr grandmother was Margaret (Mary) Joyce born about 1840. She married Martin Lynch, born about 1837. They had three daughters: Mary, who married John Gibbons in Pittsburgh in 1890; Honor (Nora) born 1864 in Clifden, Co Galway; and Bridget (Delia) - my great-grandmother - who was born about 1862. Delia married Patrick Martin in Pittsburgh in 1888. Lynch's possibly came from Castlelyons Parish. Also, I wondered if any members of this list knew H. Andrew Brown who has posted messages to the County Cork Rootsweb list. He has some of the same names that I do. I sent him an e-mail, but it came back as undeliverable. Thank you. 3. Hi Susan, Hope you don't mind me putting in my two cents worth. North St. in Cork no longer exists. It and a number of other streets were demolished in the latter half of the 1900s and now form part of a shopping centre in the Merchant's Quay area of Cork. Regards. Is there any way of finding out which was her house? Through her will I have names of several people in Cork: they are not relatives but I think it would be fun to list names of people of certain periods in Cork so that others may find them and/or a picture of a society could perhaps be built up: do you think it would be a popular offering of this list or am I a dreamboat?
