Jane What religion were your Roes and Tennants? Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com Message text written by INTERNET:IRL-CORK-CITY-L@rootsweb.com >Greetings from Canada! I am new to the list and have been searching my ROE family tree for some time, however have just found today that they may have been born in Cork City and would appreciate any hints as to how I can search further to find a record of their births.....as follows: Parents Robert Henry ROE born 1816 was a career Admiralty Civil Servant and I believe he was born in Co. Wicklow (possibly the Newtownmountkennedy area) he married Eliza Jane TENNANT who was born 1821. If she was a city of Cork girl it is possible this marriage took place there. Their first child was born 1838 so I would say the marriage took place ca 1836-38 at a guess. Children: Dr. Thomas Alexander ROE born 1838 became a surgeon, served R.N. and as a consular physician in Peru where he met and married Emmiline Russell DARTNELL born 1846, whose family were from Mallow Parish, Co. Cork and had moved to Peru just before she was born. Any leads or help finding this family would be greatly appreciated. Best regards Jane, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada victorj@sympatico.ca<

THE DUNDONIAN Vol. 1. No. 1. 2002 Welcome to the first, and perhaps the only, edition of 'The Dundonian'. I have been encouraged by my Canadian Dundon friend, Emma, to put fingers to keys! I have collected quite a lot of Dundon material which I would like to share. I hope that you will be willing to share with me. Please write to me. John Dundon. MY OWN FOREBEARS The furthest back I can go is to Patrick Dundon (1830-1866) who married Julia Doyle (1831-1878). They had two sons, Edward (1863-1907) and Patrick (1867-1935). Edward, my grandfather married Kate Fardy (1869-1946) and they had four sons, Patrick (93-11), Edward (96-18), William (99-09) and my father John (1901-1967). The first Patrick was a smith and lived in Irishtown, Dublin. His son, Edward, was a member of the RIC in Wexford. My father said that his people had come from Limerick. HI Folks, Just found this info at http://www.researchbuzz.com/news/2001/dec27jan0201.html#1901census 1901 Census for England and Wales Published Online Hey hey! The 1901 Census for England and Wales is now available at http://www.census.pro.gov.uk . Unfortunately due to heavy demand the site is only intermittently available, but I was able to get through after a couple of tries. You're able to search by first name, last name, gender, age +/- years (for example, I can search for Wodehouse, age 20, +/- five years) where born, and place keywords. You may choose to have 20, 30, or 40 search results per page. The advanced search allows you to also include marital status, occupation, and relation to head of the family. There are also searches for places (rural districts, civil parishes, etc) institutions (hospitals, barracks), and vessels (naval or merchant.) Searching for a Wodehouse, male, age 20 plus or minus five years finds a Pelham Wodehouse, born in Guildford, Surrey, 19 years old, working as an assistant. Cool! Search results gives you a table that includes name, age, where born, administrative county, civil parish, and occupation. Click on a name and you'll discover that getting more details will require paying some money. I recommend against doing that until their server load slows down a little. Using this site is EXTREMELY slow right now, but the prospect of 32 million names from the England Wales census of 1901 is really exciting. Worth a look, but you'll have to be very patient.
http://www.ucc.ie/research/nfp/publications.htm Hi and Happy Holidays, I just discovered this site and thought others may not have known about it as well. UCC is doing a project covering folklore and social history for the Northside of Cork City. I stayed up way too late reading the first 5 archives! Enjoy. Cherie Richards
I am searching for any details of my great great grandparents, Patrick KEARNEY & Mary DELANEY and their families, both from Ballincollig, County Cork in the late 1850's. Patrick Kearney was born circa 1831. His parents are given as Timothy Kearney and Mary Sheehan. His father Timothy's occupation is shown as a labourer. Patrick was a bootmaker. Patrick arrived in Geelong, Victoria, Australia in 1859 or 1860 and married a Mary Delaney in October 1860. His marriage certificate states that he was from Ballincollig, County Cork. His wife, Mary Delaney is also shown as being from Ballincollig and her parents were Morgan Delaney (occupation - farmer) and Julia O'Brien (sometimes shown as Brien). Mary DELANEY (spelt DELANY on the shipping records) left Liverpool on the "Dione" (1174 tons) on 27 November 1858. The ship carried about 168 passengers. Mary appears to have been accompanied by her brother, Morgan DELANEY and their cousin, Michael DALY. The voyage was scheduled for 140 days - the ship arrived in MELBOURNE in April 1859. I would appreciate any information on these families or would like to hear from anyone who thinks there may be any connection to these families. I would also appreciate any advice as to how I would go about tracing these families further back. Regards, Terry Kearney, South Oakleigh, Victoria, Australia.
Hello I am researching Thomas Sullivan and his father Macehal Sullivan. The date of birth I have for Thomas Sullivan is 23/8/1838. Macehal Sullivan married a Elisabeth Walsh. I recently learnt that they may be come from Cork in Ireland. I have no other information at present. Does any one know if Macehal is the Irish spelling of Michael. Any help would be most appreciated as I do not have any idea on how to proceed in tracing Irish persons. I have just started international research on my family tree. Thanks Clive Barker
