    1. [IRL-CORK-CITY] Murphy Glentainn/Mallow County Cork Ireland
    2. Hi. I am trying to find leads on the Murphy part of my family. I have a Patrick Murphy born in approx. 1806 in Ireland. He married Hannah Catherine Mulchinach (I believe she went by Catherine though). She was born in approx. 1810 in Ireland. Patrick drowned to death in the Blackwater or Blackbackwater River in Ireland probably sometime after 1836 and 1864. They had approx. 3 sons and 1 daugther. Their daughter, also named Hannah Catherine Murphy was born 17 January 1836 in Glentainn County Cork, Ireland. Daughter Hannah immigrated to Sandy Hook, NY in approx. 1851. The three sons of Hannah and Patrick Murphy are Patrick, John, and Edmund. In 1864, daughter Hannah brought her mother Hannah and two of the brothers (John and Patrick) to the US. Daughter Hannah married in 1857 to John Sharp(e) and moved with him to Evanston, IL. Mother Hannah died November 1883 in Chicago IL and was buried 19 November 1883 in Calvary Cemetary in Chicago, IL. I am interested in any specific dates (birth/death/christening etc) on Patrick MURPHY and Hannah Catherine (Mulchinach) MURPHY. I am also interested in any information related to the details of Patricks death--all I have is that he drowned in a River....one accounting tells me it is the Blackwater River and another says it is the Blackbackwater River...both note it is in Mallow County Cork Ireland. Any details on Patrick or Hannahs parents or siblings would also interest me. As for Patrick and Hannahs three sons.......I do not have much information on them so any details on the three sons would also interest me. If anyone has a connection to this family and would like the details of the family in the US from daughter Hannah Murphy and her husband John Sharp to the present time, please send me a personal email request at suzyking@aol.com and I would be delighted to provide you with my research as I currently have a detailed report on them. Thanks, Suzy

    3. Jane Did anyone ever answer this for you? I have successfully navigated the problem this past winter. We refer to the religion as Church of Ireland even though it was connected to the English Anglican church up into the 1860s. Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com >Hi fellow searchers. I have found several clues that lead me to believe that my GGG Grandparents Robert Henry ROE born 1816 and Eliza Jane (nee TENNANT) married and had their family in the city of Cork. He was working at the RN Hospital Stonehouse Devon for the Admiralty. It is possible he had been working for the Admiralty at the RN installation at Cobh before he left Ireland. I have found information about Robert's parents in Newtownmountkennedy and a record of his sister's marriage which took place at the Church of Ireland and England in Newcastle Co. Wicklow. 2. Roslyn Mckearney
    3. Hello Listers, This matter is urgent. I am placing the following on all Lists in Ireland. If you have any information regarding this person please reply in private. I obviously cannot stay subscribed to every list as much as I would like too because apart from everything else, my email box would explode. I am living in South Australia and researching our family history, and am keen to trace Mr my husband's Birth-mother, Margaret Josephine McDONNELL. Miss McDONNELL, moved from Co Dublin to Birmingham, in August 1947 and lived at Hazelville Road, Hall Green until the early 1950's. Miss McDONNELL, who was known as Josie, worked at Joseph Lucas Ltd, probably at Formans Road or Shaftmoor Lane. Miss McDONNELL, may have married thus changing her name. If still live, she will now be about 85 years old. My husband's birth-mother may have returned to Dublin in later years or well could have gone to another part of Ireland. Anyone who remembers her or can give any information is asked to email Roslyn McKearney at cooindabbs@ozemail.com.au . I would enphasize, please only respond if you have genuine information. Thank you. 3. No, but there was (is?) one on Broad Street. Broad Street runs between Grattan Street (previously Duncan Street) and North Main Street. Shown clearly on the hand-sketched Cork map in Guy's 1886 Directory but impossible to find in that modern marvel of the cartographer's art, the 1984 OS map. Broad Lane is also listed in Guy's around the same area but isn't shown on the map. On the Guy's the church is clearly named. On the OS a lonely black + marks the spot; nothing in the list of churches in the 'handy guide' appended. It looks from the Guy's that the church was in a block bounded by Broad Street to the 'north' and Liberty Street to the 'south' and that the frontage may have been on Liberty Street. The map is online at Margaret Grogan Turner's site at: http://www.sci.net.au/userpages/mgrogan/cork/cork_map4.htm If you centre the map on your screen St. F's is about dead in the middle. I think there is also a more recent Broad Lane out in the 'sticks' (Canadian expression for the country), well, Blackpool anyway :-) - so the other one could be gone by now. Roll on GPS with ID chips in every building. 3. Having stumbled upon this list, I am hoping some kind souls will be able to assist me in finding some more of my roots. My grandfather was born in 1871 (Martin Murray) it is said that he was disowned by his family because he woul not go into the priesthood. He made his way to Manchester where he married my grandmother. The only information I have is-; His father was Patrick Murray. His home was Murrays Model Farm, Cork. I am aware that there is a Model Farm Industrial Estate just outside Cork. Verbal history is that all his letters were returned unopened. I am hoping some one can help me shed some light on my family background. Thank you for reading this. Kind regards Bob in Norfolk UK

    3. There are two entries in 'Irish Placenames', O'Laughlin that may be of interest, Bride River and Bride East. Both are in the north of the county. There is nothing for Malagarry. As for names, the thing to do is to get a guide to Irish family names and take a look at for any close variations. If your man left for the US in 1889 then it is possible that his birth was registered; civil registration began in Ireland in 1864. One of the many websites on Irish family research will tell you how to go about checking for a birth entry. 2. Hi: My name is Elizabeth and I am writing from the states. I am searching my Irish roots and so far the wall is still there. I am looking for information about my Grandfather Thomas H. Murphy. He came here is 1889 according to the 1920 census. He married Annie Greer. She came here in 1888 as a teenager according to the same census. She was in the hospital for quite a few years. While searching for her I was able to read some of the reports about her. She spoke of going home to Ireland to Bride. She also spoke of a cemetery near by and a hospital or institution with the name of Malagarry. Please realize these places are pre 1888 when she came here. And the spelling is according to how the person taking the notes heard it. There are no listing for either of them since they came before there was an Ellis Island. Annie had a brother John and a sister according to the same notes. I wonder if the Annie spelling is correct. Could it have had a different spelling if it was in the Irish spelling. The same question goes for the Greer could it have been Grier? As far as my Grandfather is concerned that is all the information I have about him:-( Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Eliz.

    3. Elizabeth? Have you tried to secure, if available, his naturalization papers? It is very likely that you might get some additional and helpful information from them. At the very least, they would give you some idea of when he arrived in the U.S. and you could then select the appropriate roll of film from the 14 for the year 1889 (In NYC), and at least locate him in the Customs Passengers' Lists. Although these don't provide the detail of the post 1891 lists and lists from the 1900's, they do offer a little bit like the ship name, baggage he brought, etc. All good background for "fleshing out" ancestors. Just some passing thoughts for what they're worth. Charles --- Grammagras@aol.com wrote: > Hi: > My name is Elizabeth and I am writing from the > states. 3. Hi Listers, I'm new to the list and posting my interests: I have a baptismal certificate for Ellen BUCKLEY, baptised 14 December 1856 at St. Finbarr's Church, Dunbar Street, Cork. Her parents were Bartholomew BUCKLEY and Mary MURPHY and sponsors were Patrick BUCKLEY and Mary REGAN. In addition to this I have found out that she had a sister Bridget baptised at the same church 7 June 1863 and that her parents were also married there 2 February 1856. At some point Ellen emigrated to England, she is in Warwickshire in 1898 where she is married to John LOUDON (b.Westport, Mayo Ireland) and gave birth to my grandfather, Donald Stephen LOUDON. I can find no marriage record so far. She died in North London in 1944. Any help, connections or suggestions would be much appreciated. Melissa Zimmerman Nova Scotia Canada

    3. I know that ther were 1000 copies printed but because it was so popular I heard rumours that it was to be reprinted. Apparently Tom who was chairman of the Society has been ill for a while so I don't know... They are currently collecting info on the Kilbarry railway linefor the same purpose Therese _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
