    3. I have been trying to trace my ROE line and have recently found six Christenings that took place in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Cobh. Unfortunately the first two born to this family are missing so I am on the hunt for Thomas Alexander ROE born 1838 and his brother Robert Henry ROE born 1840. Their parents were Robert Henry ROE born 1816 Ireland and Elizabeth Jane (nee TENNANT) born 1821, Ireland. I do not know where either of the parents were born or where they married but have a clue from a ROE family member. Evidently there were some ROE family members who lived at one time at a place or estate that was called Bagintagart, not sure if this is the correct spelling (Hall?) and another Hall or estate, name unknown that was burnt to the ground, both places in Co. Cork. I have come up empty handed re any searches done for Bagintagart. If any one on list has any ideas or knows where this place was/is I would be eager to hear from you! Good hunting Jane, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

    1. Re: [IRL-CORK-CITY] Parrish / O'Keeffe (forwarded from Dawn.MikeGriffis)
    2. Brendan Jones
    3. Hi Dawn, It's possible but not definite that your Mary O'Keefe came from Ballincollig which is about six miles from Cork City and was the location for a military barracks. For information about regiments etc. try Denis Grant at milgenire@yahoogroups.com You won't get a birth cert for Mary O'Keefe but you should have no trouble getting a marriage cert if you are sure it took place in 1864 or later. Your nearest LDS Family History Center can get you the Index to Irish Marriages for the relevant years. You then send the details to Joyce House in Dublin where you can get a photostat copy (cheapest) or a transcribed copy. If you do get the marriage cert it may help to narrow your search for Alfred and Henry. You can then get their certs by following the same procedure. Regards, Brendan Jones. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dawn.MikeGriffis <Dawn.MikeGriffis@VALLEY.NET> To: <IRL-CORK-CITY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 22, 2002 3:02 AM Subject: [IRL-CORK-CITY] Parrish / O'Keeffe (forwarded from Dawn.MikeGriffis) > I am looking for a marriage of a Mary O'Keeffe to a Alfred Parrish between 1865-70 and the birth of an Alfred and a Henry between 1865-74. 1. [IRL-CORK-CITY] KIDNEY Marriage Cove of Cork 1843
    2. Eilleen E Ovenden
    3. Hello from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. This is my first posting to the List- for a start am I on the right List??? >From my husbands 2 x Gt. Grandfathers Naval Record I have details of his marriage in 1843 at the COVE OF CORK. His name was Richard Russell and he married Ellen KIDNEY. Can someone please tell me what denomination/church/name is referred to by Cove of Cork and where would I look for Records. I have access to an LDS centre, but looking at their Listings for Cork I can find no reference the Cove of Cork, so have no idea what church records to look for. Richard and Ellen had a child Bridget who was born in Ireland before they moved to Portsmouth in England in about 1848. Guidance on this much appreciated I feel rather out of my depth since I have never researched in Ireland before. Thanks Eilleen Sunshine Coast Queensland Outgoing mail scanned by Nortons 2002

    3. Hi Eileen, Cove was the original name of what is now Cobh (pronounced Cove). In the mid 1800s Queen Victoria came to visit so Cove was renamed Queenstown until 1922 when is was renamed Cobh. For Roman Catholic records try St. Colman's Cathedral, Cobh, County Cork and/or Mallow Heritage Centre Bank Place, Mallow, County Cork. Someone provided a contact name for Church of Ireland records for Cobh but I don't have it to hand. Someone on the list will have it. If you wish to find Cobh on a map of Ireland you will find it on Great Island in Cork Harbour. I hope this helps. Regards, Brendan Jones. ----- Original Message ----- From: Eilleen E Ovenden <eilleenovenden@dnet.aunz.com> To: <IRL-CORK-CITY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 21, 2002 11:28 AM Subject: [IRL-CORK-CITY] KIDNEY Marriage Cove of Cork 1843 > > >From my husbands 2 x Gt. 1. [IRL-CORK-CITY] SULLIVAN-CORKCITY-KILNAMARTYRA
    2. Greetings all: I am trying to locate a John Sullivan - O'Sullivan who lives near St. Ann's Shandon in Cork City. His father was John who was born on May 22, 1916 on a the family farm in Gortenaden, Kilnamartyra, Macroom, Co. Cork. I believe the mother was named Hannah and she was a Cork City girl. I believe they had two sons - John and one other. The father, John, was killed quite young in the war. He died on June 16, 1942 and is buried in Malta. Because of the early death of the father, these young men never had the opportunity to know their extended family. The son John went to Kilnamartyra at one point looking for family and sadly he talked with the wrong people who told him no one was there any more. While that might be true, there were people who could have led him his family in England, Canada and the US. Some time ago he met a couple named O'Leary at St. Ann's where they had gone to ring the bells. This John happened by and advised them that because it was a holiday they could not do so. They chatted with this younger John - even had a drink with him in a nearby pub - but did not know they were related, even though they did chat about Kilnamartyra. So...if you live in Cork City, near St. Ann's and know of a John Sullivan - O'Sullivan who's father was born in Kilnamartyra, please tell him his family is looking for him and would be happy to hear from him. This is long, I apologize, but I thank you for reading. Donna
