Greetings. Just returned from a wonderful visit to the wonderful city of Cork . The Sisters at St.Marries of the Isle Convent came through for me - they found Auntie Nun ! Finally, I know that Auntie Nun, as my husband knew her as, was Very Rev. Mother St.Teresa Austin Doorman. She was superiors of the convent for 18 years, beginning in 1898. I would be interested in talking to anyone else who might be related to her, and the Drogues. and/or the Dungeons. I can't say enough about the kindness of the folks in Cork city, particularly the cab drivers who were so knowledgeable and helpful, going out of their way to try and track down an ancestor's address. The courthouse is a fountain of knowledge , very easily accessed and run by pleasant, willing employees. I found the indexes for at least 4 family wills, so now I can write away for them. As many of you know, the staff at the library are also very helpful and provide the appropriate census as well as newspaper clippings , and Guy's city records. (and much more) I shall return. My family is from the St. Mary Shandon Parish. I recently learned that the parishioners of that church were usually buried in either - St. Finbarr's Cemetery, Cork City or St. Joseph's Cemetery. I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I am seeking help in finding information on John Wilson and James Wilson. I believe James Wilson was married to Mary Stanley in Bandon in possibly 1818. James Wilson, according to the census records was born about 1791. John Wilson's obituary states he was a native of Bandon, Ireland and came to New Brunswick, Canada in 1826 and was born circa 1809. Hi Listers, I'm looking for any help to make a chink in my brick wall!! I have Ellen BUCKLEY christened at St. Finbarr, Dunbar Street, Cork 14 December 1856 (she was my great grandmother). Her parents were Bartholomew BUCKLEY (manager for a corn merchant) and Mary MURPHY, sponsors for the baptism were Patrick BUCKLEY and Mary REGAN. Only known sibling is Bridget BUCKLEY, christened 7 June 1863. The parents were married at St. Finbarr's 2 February 1856. Bartholomew was deceased by 18 February 1896 when Ellen married John LOUDON in Coventry, Warwickshire. Ellen had been in England since at least 1891 when she is listed on the Census as being a wardrobe dealer, living with an aunt; Ann McGHEE, a widow, age 67, also a wardrobe dealer of 22 Silver Street, Coventry. Hello Mary, Before you send for a birth certificate you really need to try to find the reference for your grandfather's birth registration. You may be able to do this at your nearest LDS Family History Centre which is usually located within a LDS (Mormon) church. Some FHC's hold more Irish records than others but a 'phone call would tell you whether they have them in the appropriate time frame. If you are not familiar with the LDS website go to < www.familysearch.org> and you will be able to find a list of FHC's in your country (you do not say where you live in your message to the list. Ah! I see you mention US and your address could signify Alaska). Once you have the reference you can apply for a copy certificate to the General Registry Office in Dublin. Their website at <www.groireland.ie> gives all the information you need for ordering your certificate. Their service is usually quite slow due to volume of requests but do note that you can either order a full certified copy certificate or a photocopy of the entry in the register. Both give the same information but while the photocopy is not as pretty and cannot be used for official purposes, it is cheaper and usually a faster service and can suffice if you only need it for information. If you do not have a Family History Centre within your area or they do not hold the Irish records you need then get back to me and I will see if I can find it for you when I visit the FHC in about a weeks time.
