    3. Paula, Civil Registration of BMD was begun in 1864, so if John Mason was born in 1864 or after, his birth should be listed. Your best bet is to search the birth indexes, which are available at the LDS Family History Centers. It's a fairly labor intensive project but worth the effort. Once you've found the index record, you can send a request to the GRO for a certificate or photo copy of the actual record.
