The James BARRY and Catharine CONDON family probably lived near Bantry, Ireland (possibly in or near the town of Skibereen) in the early 1800s. Their two sons, Thomas and William, were born there, as was their older daughter Ellen. Their youngest, Catharine BARRY, was born at Stepney, Middlesex, after the family moved to England about 1850 to find agricultural work. Thomas married there, probably about 1863, to Ellen TOOHIG. She bore him two sons, then died, possibly in childbirth. The entire family (that I know of) relocated to America (Wisconsin) not long after, in the mid 1860s. Ellen, who had met and married Paul SHEEHAN, remained behind, at least until her son, Timothy SHEEHAN, was born (in or near London) in July 1968. Once the Barry's were settled in Lafayette county, WI, the men engaged in mining. Later, they mostly turned to farming. William BARRY had a family farm near Independence, Buchanan county, IA. Paul SHEEHAN and Ellen BARRY eventually farmed in Wright county, IA. Catharine BARRY married Patrick D KELLY and they farmed in Lincoln township of Black Hawk county, IA. If this bit of history rings any bells as matching some element of your own family, please drop me a note. Kevin in Missouri
