Someone on the list had a program based on just surnames that lists all of the possible combinations. Would that person use that program to combine the names Callahan/Daly in Cork. My great grandfather spelled his name Callahan, as did his mother and brother. I assume that was the way it was in Ireland, I might be wrong. I would be very grateful. Thanks, CAthryn
Cathryn The name Daly - exact spelling- is mentioned 3861 times in all of Ireland and 860 times in Cork. There are other spelling variations. The name Callahan -exact spelling- is mentioned 36 times in Ireland and only 6 times in County Cork. However there are 2603 Callaghan in Ireland and 989 in County Cork plus 119 in Cork City. There are other spelling variations including the " O " in front of other spellings. However with just Daly and Callagan there are 4 parishes with one mention each of Callahan with multiple mentions of Daly: Abbeystrowery with 9 Daly's, Kilmeen- East Carbery with 1 mention of Daly, Moviddy with 5 mentions of Daly and St Finbarrs with 9 mentions of Daly. Hi: Callahan is a name I am very familiar with. My Nafin (Naphan) family married into the Callahan family here in Canada but they all came from either Roscommon or Cork. Sometimes the name is spelled Callaghan. they are still alive and kicking in south eastern Ontario and there are lots of them. Any connection? Hi, My Callahan family came from Cork, that is what the family said. Daniel was my ggrandfather and came in 1880. I really do not have much info. As far as I know all of my Callahans were in Connecticut. I know there are lots of them both here and Ireland. Sorry I do not have more info.
