Hello Susan, I was interested in your surnames for County Cork, because my gg grandparents were Thomas Mullins and Mary Reardon. My problem has been that their family lore place of birth does not seem to pan out in reality. However, this family first showed up in Merthyr Tydfil in Glamorgan, Wales, on the 1871 census. My great grandfather William Mullins as a 10 year old, born in Ireland, and his sister Catherine aged 8, also born in Ireland. As you can see, their births came before civil retgistration making it very difficult from a birth certificate point of view. However, I did another clue to work from, there was a brother Daniel born in Dowlais, so was able to obtain his birth certificate which gave the mother's maiden name of Mary Reardon. I do know that Reardon can also be mistaken for Riorden, according to who is hearing the information. However, the clue of Kanturk might be useful, it is a case of clutching at straws I suppose. Catherine died as a teenager, and never married, so I cannot find any clues there. However, my Greatgrandfather married a girl whose parents came from Pembrokeshire, also in Wales, so no Irish clues there either. So, now we have William Mullins and Susanna James. Her parents were John James and Jane Morris. John James said to beborn in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, and Jane Morris was born in Narberth in Pembrokeshire. I have been able to trace the Morris family, but the James family is also very difficult. The only connecting names here is that John James father was Thomas James, and William Mullins father was called Thomas Mullins. So, the name Thomas could come from either side I suppose. My own grandfather was called John Mullins and he was born 1896 inTylorstown in the Rhondda Valley. He had a brother called Thomas, also William. Sisters were Elizabeth, called Lizzie, and Mary. There was also another brother called George, but he died as a young lad in Tylorstown. Sorry to go on a bit. If any of these names feature in your branch of the Reardon's or connecting families, perhaps we have the beginnings of a working relationship. Unfortunately, no American links have come down through the family for me to work on. All the best, Maureen Jenkins Rhondda, Glamorgan, Wales.
