    3. Please go to the U.S. Census section of Cyndi's List: http://www.cyndislist.com/ (main contents page) http://www.cyndislist.com/census.htm (U.S. Census pages) if you click on the year of interest, they have explanations for all the fields (the 'rules' for the enumerators are very interested, and, as we all know, sometimes not followed!)l On Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 12:38 PM, Helen <[email protected]> wrote: > NA is naturalized PA is the process has begun and AL is alien. 2. Thank you all, you learn something new everyday !! I think this is interesting, one of my grandaunts naturalised, she was a female over 21 152. The question of naturalization (column 18) applies only to foreign-born males 21 years of age and over. It does not apply to foreign-born minors, to foreign-born females, or to any person, male or female, who was born in the United States, either of native or foreign parentage. 3. Yes, well, the enumerators sometimes did their own thing (which is great if it ADDS genealogy knowledge!) 3. Is your Aunt married? If she was she would have been naturalized pre 1922 if her husband was naturalized. That event happened on one of mine -- she said she was naturalized by way of her husband. Women did not get to do their own naturalizations until after 1922 -- the right to vote occurred in 1920. Calls to mind the expression -- you've come a long way baby!! Hard to believe less than 100 years ago women in the US couldn't vote. Helen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathleen B.
