    3. I have contacted all the state and national archives in Australia in hopes of finding a clue about an ancestor who supposedly emigrated from Cork to Australia in the 1890s. But the Australian archives haven't found any record of him. I'm fairly certain that he didn't emigrate to the USA - at least he doesn't show up in census or passenger list records. I would appreciate any suggestions about continuing the Australian search. The only information I have is: Name - Bartholomew Mescall DoB - March 1871 PoB - Kilpatrick, Kilpatrick, Co. Cork Parents - Denis Mescall & Mary Murphy Dave Collins Hudson, Mass., USA

    3. Hi David, Have you tried Findmypast? Their records begin in 1890. It is free to do a name search although you have to pay for the actual record. They have six Mascalls (not Mescall) or variations of the name to Australia, the one to Albany, WA does not have a Christian name but the others are not Bartholomew. I have found most of the Irish immigrants were sponsored by members of their own family. 3. Hi David, I had a look in the BDM index for NSW & couldn't find any MESCALL at all. Did you find any people with the surname MESCALL in Australia? >From Jenny http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~becher/index.htm >I have contacted all the state and national archives in Australia in > hopes of finding a clue about an ancestor who supposedly emigrated > from Cork to Australia in the 1890s.
