Sam is buried in a family plot in the churchyard of the St Mary's, Church of Ireland, Dunmanway. http://www.fanlobbus.cork.anglican.org/ I have recorded details from his headstone. I will locate them in a day or so and post them. There is an amount of family detail in a book by a lady whose name I think is Walsh. I will try to find it. The book does not come up on a Google search. The cup you mention is the All Ireland Senior (Gaelic) Football Championship. It is the highest honour in Gaelic Football. This is not soccer. It is played for in Croke Park, Dublin in September each year at the end of a very keenly contested knock out competition. http://dunmanway.pighaswings.com/page/sam_maguire/ My maternal grandfather was from Ardfield. He was born in 1889. I never heard say anything about Sam Maguire. As Maguire was 12 years older than him it is probable he never knew him. My great uncle John was a closer in age to Maguire. He took a similar career path to the civil service in London. They all got a wonderful start in life from "The Master Madden". He educated many boys and enabled to escape from rural subsistence existences to relative comfort through their own exertions and hard work. Michael Collins was a pupil there. My grandfather joined the British civil service before WW1 and later joined the Irish Free State civil service. He got his chance because of the fine education he received from Master Madden. You have probably researched the abundances of information written that is on the web. A search under Dunmanway would give you pictures of the statue dedicated to him erected on the town green. Dunmanway's Historical Society may have the information that you are researching. The web address and telephone number is readily available to you when googled. Would anyone have information on Sam Maguire who came from Cork and became famous in the early part of the Twentieth Century? I am looking for info on his parents and grandparents. Wikipedia only gives info on his siblings. I believe a football (soccer) trophy was later named for him in Ireland. I would really appreciate any assistance or suggestions! I thank you in advance.
