    1. MARY SCANNELL 1833-1884 (daughter of Edward SCANNELL)
    2. John Steitz
    3. I am refreshing my postings with hope a few new loose threads of info could help. Mary SCANNELL was born May 1833-4 in Ireland. She was the daughter of an Edward SCANNELL. She married John BUCKLEY in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales on May 18, 1852. She has not been found on the Wales or England 1851 Census (recorded early April) and thus I speculate that she came to Wales near the end of the Famine in 1851. Her father is listed as deceased on marriage certificate. John's father was listed as Michael BUCKLEY. They had children by the names Johanna, Edward, Margaret, John, Ellen, Bridget, Catherine, Cornelius Edward & Jeremiah Michael. The last two were born in Pittsburgh, PA. where the family came through NY harbor leaving Wales 1871 & 2. Children Edward, Ellen & Bridget died in Wales prior to the migration. The middle names I believe honor deceased siblings. Mary died in Pittsburgh 1884. I have found no hard evidence of immediate family in Wales although I suspect that is not true. Wales 1871 Census shows a Mary HARRINGTON, age 80 living with family listed as "Mother". John had already left for US at time of census. Marriage witness names: Dennis and Mary MINIHAN (they were brother and sister) Baptism sponsor (Wales only): Johanna: David GOGGIN & Catherine DRISCOLL Edward (information missing), Margaret: Michael CARTY & Mary HARRINGTON, Ellen: Timothy DONOHOE & Mary DONOGAN, Bridget: *James* COLEMAN & Mary * DONNAHUE*. The spelling, penmanship and attempts at Latin in Church records leaves room for adjustment where italicized. On Edward's birth cert Mary Buckley was listed as formerly Donahue. She was spinster at marriage but Donahue/Donohoe name is significant. The David GOGGIN was living with sister Mary GOGGIN on Wales 1851 Census. He listed "Klamkelthy", Ireland which I interpret as Clonakilty. She listed "Ross, Cork". They had a Mary SCANNELL living with them, age 60 listed as "Mother". Catherine DRISCOLL was the wife of Florence DRISCOLL. I do not know her maiden name although I suspect either BUCKLEY or SCANNELL. These two families lived a few doors apart twice in Merthyr, different neighborhoods over a ten year span. Edward is a very rare name in SCANNELL family at this time. I have checked the IHFS search engine without a match. I speculate this is a southwest Cork SCANNELL. There is a long list of reasons for this speculation included and not included here. I suspect John BUCKLEY traveled separate and they met in Merthyr. He is on the 1851 Census in Merthyr listed as "visitor" living with a SHEA family. Thank you for your time and I welcome any fresh thoughts and Happy Easter. John (son of a BUCKLEY)
