Rob wrote....... Hi! Would anyone have information on Sam Maguire who came from Cork and became famous in the early part of the Twentieth Century? I am looking for info on his parents and grandparents. Wikipedia only gives info on his siblings. I believe a football (soccer) trophy was later named for him in Ireland. I would really appreciate any assistance or suggestions! I thank you in advance. Sincerely, Rob Canada Rob, Have you had a look at the Griffith's Valuation 1848-1864, for there is a James Maguire from Co. Cork, Civil Parish of Liscarroll in the townland of Moyge and a Michael Quiin from the same County and Civil Parish but in the townland of Knockardbane. Just thought I would throw my twenty cents in and may be worth investigating. Dear John. Thanks for your twenty cent reply!! It truly was valued at far more by me. Your information does help with the Maguires and Quins being in Cork about the same period. You have given me a working position to begin researching again. I needed some guidance. Much appreciated! Rob, I have had a closer look at the Griffith's Valuation and there was a James Maguire and a John Quinn living in the same townland of Moyge in the Civil Parish of Lisnacarroll County Cork. James Maguire was the occupier of 52 acres, 3 perches and 37 roods. He leased the property from Reps.Christopher, Knight, Saunders Esq. He paid £29/10/-, for the land, £1/15/- for the buildings making a total annual rent of £31/5/-. John Quinn from the same townland of Moyge, leased from the same Reps. Christopher, Knight, Saunders Esq. 23 acres, 3 perches, 35 roods. His rent per annum was £12/15/- for the land and 5/- for the buildings.Total annual rent being £13/-/-. Looks very much like a match to me Rob.
