    1. Re: Parish maps
    2. Janet-- Thanks for the suggestion. I did try that years ago but was not satisfied with the accuracy of the overlay. I have the first edition of Mitchell's book, and maybe the quality of the maps has improved since. But in any case, trying to fit different maps one over the other seems to bring out all the discrepancies, and I'm not sure the level of detail is adequate anyway, if, say, you were looking for a marriage between people who lived only a couple of miles apart on the ground, but in two different parishes (in both senses). Isn't there a professional organization that has or would like to take a shot at this? Sheila Connolly Middleboro, MA **************Make your summer sizzle with fast and easy recipes for the grill. 3. Sheila, What you might do is write to the PP or e-mail the diocese office and ask what townlands show in the parish record book for the year(s) in which you have an interest, and, if he knows, what changes occurred in the parish boundaries over time. That might tell you all you really need to know. The couple would have normally married in her parish. Over 200 years, townlands could actually be located under several different parish names, so you might also ask about that. I've been working on a Tipp placename database and it has become really interesting. Sometimes they would move just a few houses from one parish to the next to try to even up the income for the priests. There were so many changes to parish names and boundaries, it can make your head spin. Janet On 6/28/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > Janet-- > > Thanks for the suggestion.
