    1. [Irl-Cork] BUCKLEY SCANNELL HAYES (Cork to Wales to Pittsburgh)
    2. John Steitz
    3. My prime target is John Buckleyb1829 +/-, son of Michael Buckley of County Cork. John married Mary Scannell b1832 in 1852 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. She was daughter of Edward Scannell. They parented 8 children in Merthyr. John worked in the ironworks. The works began to close to 1859 and they struggled to maintain consistent work. In 1870 John left for New York. Mary and the 4 surviving children followed in 1872 landing in NY harbor in May. From NY they quickly came to Pittsburgh where John found consistent work in an iron mill. Thousands others made a very similar migration. They shared their mill housing in Pittsburgh with 2 other families who made similar trecks. Church witnesses and sponsors were surnames Minihan, Goggin, Harrington, Donohue/ Donohoe, Coleman & Carty. Shared housing with a Barry family. I predict I will find the family origin somewhere in the Bandon River drainage or slightly north towards Macroom but to date no Cork connections on any of this family or its supporting cast. I also have a Joseph Hayes family who left County Cork in the mid 1860's and went to Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales. They also came to Pittsburgh in 1870's. These family groups share 2 marriage connections yet lived in 2 different Irish communities of Pittsburgh.
