Greetings, My family and I have hunted for years for my grandmother's 1879 or 1880 Irish birth registration, or her baptism. We now think the new Family Search Beta site must be including more registrations than before, at this URL: <https://beta.familysearch.org/> This week I put in my grandmother's surname, Mahoney, with no first name; and both her parents' names, Cornelius Mahony & Margaret Regan, plus County Cork, but no date. As I expected, her previously known siblings' civil births & baptisms turned up, in Glengarriff civil and Inchigeelagh RC locations. Then suddenly, up popped a new one, with no given first name at all: "*...* Mahoney, Female," with my grandmother's exact birth date, 19 Dec 1879, at a location unfamiliar to our family, Inniscarra. This family moved around a bit, so it still makes sense, really. Our Margaret Mahoney had emigrated to northern Illinois with her mother & siblings at about age 4 or 5. All she remembered of Ireland was being able to walk from their home to the ship. Inniscarra, a few miles west of Cork City, seems walkable to Cobh. Would we have found her sooner, if we had looked for unnamed babies instead of just Margarets? Who knew that a child's birth could even be registered with *no stated first name*? After I obtain a copy of my "Female but unnamed" Mahoney's civil birth registration [which might list a townland?], I will search for her baptism at the most likely RC parish. Appreciate any comments or advice, Barb Glassel
