My Aunt Joan reports that Bryan/Byron HEFFERNAN (born about 1845) and Julia BRENNAN (born about 1848), my GG Grandparents, might have come from County Cork. Any road, they were in Chicago by 1867. Their children were as follows: 1.) Mary A "Mollie" was born in 1867, in Chicago; she married Alfred Paul LeFEBVRE(a crockery house packer in the 1910 Chicago census) in 1885, in Cook Co. (prolly Chicago). They had 10 children, all born in Illinois. Mollie was in Pasadena, CA, by 1925, where she died in 1942. 2.) Elizabeth "Lizzie" was born about 1868, in Illinois; she married James Joseph MURPHY (a fireman in the 1900 Chicago census) in 1889, in Cook Co. (again, prolly Chicago). They had six children, including Alice Catherine, all born in Illinois. Alice was born in 1904 in Roseland, Illinois. She died in San Francisco in 1995. My Mom reports that one of Mom's aunts used to travel up to San Francisco to visit Alice, who lived in a hotel. 3.) Bernard "Barney" was born May 1870, in Illinois. Don't know any more. 4.) Ellen Cecelia "Nellie" (Mom's grandmother) was born in 1875, in Chicago. She had two children by Bill O'DONNELL, William John (born in 1897, in Chicago; died in 1968, and is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery) and Mary Julia, Mom's mom. Mary Julia was born in 1898, in Chicago. By way of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Minneapolis, Minnestoa, she ended up in Brampton, North Dakota, where she met my grandfather, Lyle COOPER. They got married in Cogswell, North Dakota, in 1924, and moved to California with their five children some time later, where Mary Julia died in 1942. Grandma Nellie is presumed to have married Grandpa Bill (although I have not been able to find a record thereof), since there was great scandal in the family over her having divorced him. I'm beginning to wonder whether the scandalous behavior was not having married him in the first place? About 1905, in Chicago, Grandma Nellie married Martin "Mart" BRENNAN (spelled BRENNEN in some places), who was born in 1870, in New York state. They had three children, one of whom was the aunt of my mother's who visited Alice MURPHY in San Francisco. Mart's parents (Martin BRENNAN/BRENNEN and Mary HOGAN) and grandparents were born in Ireland, county/counties unknown. 5.) Peter A was born in Oct 1878, in Illinois. He was a steam fitter in the 1900 census, living in Hyde Park with Mollie and Alfred. FWIW, one of my sisters married a BRENNAN, whose forebears were definitely from County Somewhere, Ireland, and spent quite a bit of time in New Orleans, Texas, and the northern reaches of Mexico. That's my story; I'm sticking to it (until I get the evidence that proves otherwise!)... Slán, Mo! (Hanrahan) Langdon, IBSSG -- <http://xri.net/=mobang>
