Chris, Welcome to the Cork list and I hope you don't live to regret this intro idea. My Cork ancestors left for Canada between 1810 and 1830. Most of my work has been on Haggerty (and its many variant spellings) and Bateman. These families were protestant (yes, even the Haggertys) and came from around Bandon and south and west of there. I have extracted 100s, perhaps even 1000s, of records from C of I registers from many parishes around Bandon. Many of those were submitted to can-chaleur-bay-irish@rootsweb.com in 2002/03 (and can be searched in the list archives). My Batemans came primarily from the Kilbrittain/Rathclaren area, south of Bandon: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sharonmh/bateman/ Bateman related families include: Ellis, Hales, Parrott/Perrott, Smith, Sutton and others. And my Haggertys from Kilmeen, west of Bandon: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sharonmh/Haggertie/ Documents my family brought from Kilmeen include correspondance to and from the Bishop of Cork and Ross, dated 1766. These and other documents are transcribed and there are links to them on the Haggertie webpage. I also extracted Haggerty records from Ballymodan (Bandon) registers: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sharonmh/Ballymodan/ Haggerty related families include Beamish, Boyd, Forbes, Shannon, Tanner and Webb. I'll jump in and say that I'm researching Cain Crowley of Cork (c. 1831 or 1834-1894) ("Ross Carbery Town" according to his gravestone in New York, USA) He was married to Hannah Vaughn or possibly Makin. By 1859 they were in New York City where their daughter Mary was born. Subsequent children born in NY were Ann E., Hannah, George, Cain. Hannah, my great-grandmother, married John Dacey in NY about 1890 Cain's parents were possibly John Crowley and Mary (unknown) He immigrated to the US possibly c. 1841 Not much to go on, but I'd be grateful for any thoughts or connections. Hi Brigid, I was wondering if your John Dacey was also from Rosscarbery? That is where my husband's Dacey line came from; his ggf Patricl Dacey was born there c. 1865 and settled in Haverhill, Ma....,.,.Maryann ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brigid O'Donnell" <mbod@erols.com> To: irl-cork@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, November 7, 2010 10:15:58 PM Subject: [Irl-Cork] Intro - searching Crowley of Rosscarbery I'll jump in and say that I'm researching Cain Crowley of Cork (c. 1831 or 1834-1894) ("Ross Carbery Town" according to his gravestone in New York, USA) He was married to Hannah Vaughn or possibly Makin. Hi Maryann, My John Dacey was born in NYC or Brooklyn abt 1867 and I've not been very successful in filling out the Dacey branch. I believe that his parents were born in Ireland but I can't even prove their names for sure yet - they are quite elusive in the census records, and with names like John and Mary it is hard to pinpoint them. A Nora J. Dacey was a baptismal sponsor for one of John's children, so she may have been a sister or some other relation, but I can't find her anywhere either! Don't you hate it when they hide so successfully? If I find a connection, I will surely let you know.
