John writes: === I have 2 records that cite a birth and baptism in Dromtarriff RC Parish in County Kerry. The 2 address are listed as Gurrane and Rathcoole. === I have time for only a quick response now (I'll give it more time later today or tomorrow). I suspect this is the Diocese of Kerry, and not the County of Kerry. Dromtarrife RC parish (in the mid-1800's) was located entirely in Co. Cork, to the N and NE of Millstreet town. The village and townland of Rathcool is a bit more than 4 miles NE of Millstreet, and is about a mile south of the River Blackwater. Along the north bank of the River, to the WNW of Rathcool village, is the townland of Garrane South. The companion townlands of Garrane West and Garrane North are connected with Garrane South, to the west and north (not surprisingly [gr]). These townlands are all in Dromtarriff civil parish, which forms a part of Dromtarrife RC parish. I'll get back to you with more, if I think I have more to offer..... later.
